At $50 a 1/5 it ought to be good! While in Kentucky I opted for some Jefferson Straight Rye and Russell Reserve 6 yr old. Prefer the Jefferson for a Sazerac as its flavor is a little bolder than...

The recipe I used called for 3 dashes of bitters. And I used Herbsainte brand absinthe. I'd never tasted a licorice liqeur...in the drink it was just the ticket, but a taste of it by itself...not so...

Finally found some rye whiskey other than Jim Beam in Bossier this evening. Wild Turkey rye 101 proof. There was also a brand called Overholt but at $10.50 a 1/5th, kind of doubted it this time....
Around here the house brand is Turkey. But a very good and generally less expensive favorite is Dickel black label. A real bourbon flavor, just a little smokey.
