I’ll come to his defense. A thug is a violent criminal with little ambition other than creating havoc selfishly.
Carlos and J’Mar are not thugs.
But, there are tons of white thugs so I doubt...
I don’t think they are thugs. They are all very good football players. Not “NFL good” but they could certainly light up this league. Would be fun to see.
If pot is legal in the USFL they could be fun to watch. Maybe pick up Trent Taylor and Carlos Henderson sometime and they’d really put on a show.
That’s a good post and I agree. Tech football has been mediocre for the past 40 years though. Maybe someday someone can get Tech over that hill.
I just meant that was a good team. If the suspension didn’t happen, it may have been an undefeated team. Holtz didn’t have just one good team in 2014 was my main point. He had several good teams.
It's hard to imagine a coach bad enough to cause an NFL team to get blown out by a college team... twice.
The Sokol, Driskel, and Higgins years were all fun. Started falling apart with the J'mar teams (although 2019 was good). Agree that it was time for change. Cumbie has brought in a lot of new...
Glad Fletch cleared up that Cumbie will be calling the plays. It soundslike he was saying the 2 coordinators will take over more of that duty as he builds trust in them.
Probably, but Tim may not have even been here if Holtz didn’t give him a chance to coach. Who knows? It all worked out great for Tim though.
This is from the Oklahoma State site:
In Rattay’s six seasons in Ruston, the Bulldogs went 46-33, won two Conference USA West Division titles and were 5-0 in bowl games.
• In 2016, Rattay...
Yes, that’s what I was hearing. A coaching change will bring about 9 wins, the conference championship, and a likely win over either Baylor or Clemson. All the pieces are in place, Tech just needs...
Really? This sounds like Holtz was a terrible recruiter who pulled out 3 wins somehow. I’ve always thought the consensus was that Tech had more talent than all the teams in CUSA but Holtz was...
Exactly. And Liberty apparently has a P5-level donor base funding the athletics programs. Tech will never have 40,000 students, San Antonio, or the money that Liberty has.
Tech’s advantage is...
True, just saying he was a winner. I think Tech was the winningest team in CUSA during Holtz’s time at Tech. But winning isn’t everything… it’s time to win the more meaningful games and not lose so...
I’m saying they did much more than passed Holtz, they passed Tech. If Cumbie does well, those teams could take him from Tech. They offer more.
I don’t think “a winner” is good enough. Holtz was “a winner.” Tech needs championship wins and Top 25 finishes and P5 wins. The new conference will likely make championships a little more doable....
Those schools don’t have to work as hard as Tech does. UTSA had what looked like 40,000 at the game last night. I doubt Tech will ever have that. Liberty pays their coach 4 times what Tech pays its...
Something happened after NC State. Either the close losses destroyed team morale or Austin Kendall was carrying the team on his back. They were very close to the Top 25 until they fell apart… and...
Bicknell inherited a stacked team. Dooley was a rebuild. Dykes was changing philosophy. Holtz was a rebuild. The 2022 team is stacked (QB is iffy). Cumbie is set up to get out of Ruston in 2-3...
I heard that. Sounds like he believes a good run game creates explosive pass plays. I guess the reverse is also true: A good passing game opens holes for the backs. Hope he can recruit OL.
It seems like the AAC wanted markets. Tech was probably the best all-around program in CUSA. UNT, UTSA, Charlotte, and Rice would love to be able to say they went to 7 straight bowl games. At the...
I have a hunch that he didn't want Lou calling him up and saying, "You're a terrible coach... you just cost your team the game. YOU cost them the game with that dumb call." So he coached very...
I just spent some time reading through some of the USF fans posts from back then. I disagree with many of them (he couldn't recruit, he played golf instead of recruiting, etc...), but this one...
This seems like the perfect choice for Tech. I just hope he doesn’t want to call the plays. 😂
