That is one of my favorite bourbons.
Red Breast and Midleton's Very Rare ($$).
Enjoying another bacon whiskey old fashioned (or two) tonight. Sooooooo tasty.
Technically, Knob Creek IS a small batch made by Beam, Inc, as are Bookers, Bakers and Basil. I like them all, but Bookers is my favorite - it is the only one that is barrel proof.
For the...
Easy, just make a bacon-weave cocktail glass.
Made a Bacon Whiskey Old Fashioned this weekend. May be new most favorite cocktail.
How I made it
1. Make bacon-infused bourbon: Cook about 4 to 5 pieces of hickory smoked bacon in frying pan....
We stopped by the icehouse/dancehall but they were not opened.
This week I made a trip to hill country and Texas's only Bourbon distillery, Garrison Brothers. The owner has invested alot of his own (and his family's) money into setting up a small but top-notch...
Also, I know at least one person that uses Peychauds in his gumbo recipe.
Hot sauce is a good comparison. I have seen some Sazerac recipes that call for both Angostura and Peychauds, but I have never tried it. Angostura has a brasher flavor than Peychauds, but nothing...
If you taste them side by side, they are very different. I used Angostura the first couple of times I made them but have found Peychauds to be better for sazeracs. Angostura is my go to for Old...
Did you use Angostura or Peychauds bitters?
Try squeezing or twisting the lemon peel above the glass. It actually makes a difference. I upped the amount of bitters because it was getting lost.
I am thinking about trying a new variation on the old fashioned, except using bacon infused bourbon (which has been done before) and maple syrup instead of sugar.
Once you have made it a few times, it begins to feel about as complicated as making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The traditional recipe calls for muddling pure sugar and bitters in the bottom...
The local liquor store did not have Rittenhouse, so I picked up (Ri)1. Was pleasantly surprised. It made good sazeracs. I have tried many different ryes in this cocktail, and some otherwise tasty...
Rittenhouse rye is great for a sazerac.
Yeah, it is much better than the Jim Beam regular.
And I should clarify...Jim Beam is for mixing with COKE. A good bourbon like Knob Creek does not require mixers. I really like Basil Hayden's too.
I have a bottle of JW Blue. Bought it on a cruise ship for $150. I only did that because of the value. I do not generally drink blended Scotch, only single malts.
I like Knob Creek, and it tastes nothing like Jim Beam. Jim Beam is dirt cheap.
I like Jim Beam (best value bourbon out there, IMO), but I definitely think the Jim Beam black is better.
Never had the 12yo 'Fiddich, but the 15yo is the most "accessible" single malt I have had.
Blended scotch and single malts taste very different. Heck, single malts from one region taste VERY different from single malts of a different region.
My favorite blend for smoothness and...
