    Re: Transfer Portal 2023

I've been shocked how much uproar there's been from people saying __% of these kids in the portal are going to be shocked when they don't have anywhere to play. (You fill in the blank on that...

    Re: High School Baseball

LOL. Of course the point went totally over your head. Slade was a great athlete. He's probably not the starting QB at West Monroe as a 14-year-old freshman. I enjoyed watching him play. Thought he'd...

    Re: High School Baseball

Fed is also the only one of those guys who didn't grow up in West Monroe. West Monroe has made a killing off having 19-year-olds playing against 16- and 17-year-olds for years. They used to have a...

    Re: High School Baseball

Cecchini and Sim don't like each other. Sim wrote "Ourselves" as the opponent on the lineup card, and Cecchini took offense to that. They exchanged words after the game. Both of those guys have huge...

    Re: Transfer Portal 2023

Many guys with prototypical QB size absolutely suck. Meanwhile, the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft measured at 5-10 and 204 pounds at the combine.

    Re: Transfer Portal 2023

Oh, Jesus Christ. People leave their jobs every single day for different jobs. This is no different. The college sports landscape has changed. It's a player empowerment era. It's no different than...

    Re: Transfer Portal 2023

It's funny that you say agility has declined because guys are out of position. Guys are out of position because of coaching and preparation. Putting a guy in a position to make a play can make an...

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

That's what makes some of this stuff so difficult when you start comparing stats from different eras. For example, take the Moats vs. Dixon debate. Who was the better RB? Dixon had a better four-year...

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

Look, I didn't see either of these guys play so I'm missing the eye test. But Mackey's junior and senior seasons were better than any year that Slaughter had. Don't get me wrong. Slaughter was great....

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

I went with more of an NFL philosphy in terms of personnel. A lot of 11 personnel, more 10 personnel than 12 or 21. But we would have plays with a FB, two TEs and a goal-line package.

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

Definitely could have made the team in place of Joe Smith or Dennis Morris. I'd have no problem with that. I went with big RB and H-back over a traditional FB.

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

Stats can be misleading, and in this case, a lack of stats can be misleading. I was admitting that I probably bungled this one, and part of that issue was a lack of information about Anderson's...

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

The only year that Sports Reference has stats for Larry Anderson (1977), he had five interceptions and four return TDs. He's one of six players in Tech history with a 100-yard kickoff return, and he...

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

It was a different game back then, but Brown scored 12 touchdowns (9 receiving, 1 rushing, 1 kickoff return, 1 punt return) during his two years at Tech. Griffin Hebert had half that many this past...

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

You're right. All of these guys were before my time, so I don't have the eye test to rely on. I was just looking at production and trying to compare their status in Tech lore over different eras.

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

Quick 6 was great, and you could easily make an argument for him over Joe Smith. Since I was trying to build a roster and not just name the best players, I needed a big back who could play in...

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

I spent about six hours in the media guide researching and writing. I considered a whole bunch of guys, but when whittling it down to 53, some difficult decisions have to be made. I think everybody...

    Re: Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

I considered Robinson. It's hard when comparing eras. He was a 260-pound nose tackle. Smith and Jelly were absolute forces. Jelly is my backup at nose, and in a 3-4 I needed someone with his size....

Smith was my last cut at DB. I didn't know his back story as he was before my time, but I certainly think he could replace either Causey or Doyle.

    Prof's 53-man All-Time Bulldogs

Just as I did yesterday with building an all-time Tech basketball roster, I spent today building a 53-man football roster. I elected against an 85-man roster because of redshirts and transfers, etc....

Re: QB flips to Tech from Harvard

Holstein is one of the best that I've ever seen in person. Two summers ago, we went down to STM for a 7-on-7 tournament. I got to stand on the field just a few yards away from Holstein as he was...
  24. Re: How long does it take to hire a defensive coordinator?

So you're saying the consensus of this board was that we'd win 10 games and finish second in the division? I'd love to see the evidence to back that up. That's not the mood I remember from the...
  25. Re: How long does it take to hire a defensive coordinator?

I'm saying in the moment before the suspension we had a chance for a truly historic season, and the suspension cost us that. But if you told any of us at the beginning of the season that we'd win 10...
