Well, that's why the party "out of power" (defined as not having the WH) must be willing to compromise....a lot. The party in power goes to the Prez, congressional leadership, and make their case asking the Prez not to veto anything. If they have done their homework and gotten everyone on board, they can vote to overturn the presidential line item vetoes. Involve the Prez in the initial budget discussions, so he/she has some say in what the budget will look like.
If, on the other hand, Congress ignores the Prez's wishes and just ramrods thru a bunch of goofy spending items, they are just asking for line items to be vetoed.
Clearly what we have now isn't working. We have a pending $22 trillion national debt. As it is now, the POTUS either accepts ALL the stupid spending, including pork barrel projects, and we continue to kick the can down the road (growing the debt), or the POTUS makes a stand, says "No!" and "shuts down" the government. (which we all know is not really a shut down).
Pick your poison. It appears you are on the side of kicking the can down the road. Well, maybe not you, but certainly the Left is. I don't see ANY effort to curtail federal spending from the dems. The GOP can be just as bad, as a whole, because they are also part of The Swamp.
