The high school principals are trying to reclassify the private schools into a separate classification for the playoffs.

However, it's not just the private schools that the public principals don't want to compete against. They have created the terms "select" and "non-select" schools. "Select" schools are private schools and dual-enrollment public schools with greater than 33% of the student body in the magnet program.

Byrd just happens to be the only public school that fits into that category because 40% of the school is in the magnet program, and Byrd would be the only "select" 5A school in North Louisiana.

Rumor is that this is an attempt by Shreve to get the Caddo School Board to limit Byrd's magnet enrollment to less than 33% because the majority of Byrd's magnet students come from Shreve's district.

Every public school in Caddo Parish has a magnet program and can draw from anywhere in the parish. Byrd's magnet program already has the highest standards in the parish with a 2.76 GPA requirement, which is higher than Caddo Magnet's 2.5 GPA requirement. You also have to score greater than 50%tile on both the English and Math sections of the LEAP.

The jealously of some of these public school principals is really pathetic.
