    Buddy Roemer -- yes, seriously

My left-leaning views, particularly regarding fiscal matters, are not a secret around here.

But I will almost certainly vote for a Republican should Roemer make it onto the ballot in my state. The more I read his material and hear him speak, the more I feel he is the candidate with whom I best identify. Not 100%, by any stretch. But head and shoulders above all the others.

I beg pardon if there's already been a thread on him (I dont visit Pawlitics much anymore), but can we have a serious conversation about Buddy? Would any of my conservative brethren and sistren consider supporting him in a primary? Or even as a 3rd party candidate come November?

Remember -- the only "wasted" vote is the one you cast for someone you dont think is the best candidate.

I voted for him one time. I won't make that mistake again. He's all talk.

He spoke here on campus recently and he definitely opened a few eyes. Esquire did a great profile on him. http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politic...issues-6636748 He had a good indepth interview with Ezra Klein in the Washington Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...hdfP_blog.html John Stewart had fun with him and he even got along with Bill Maher. He's not a serious candidate unfortunately but not necessarily by any fault of his own. He met the requirements for several debates but they still wouldn't let him on which is a real shame. We're handing the election to an unelectable president. Unreal.

If you are left-leaning and you like Roemer, I probably wouldn't like him.

The best candidate is the one that can beat Obama. So, no, I would not vote for Roemer.

" I would reinstate Glass-Steagall [the Depression-era law that was repealed during the Clinton administration that mandated that commercial banks and investment banks remain separate, its repeal pretty much opening the casino that produced the 2008 economic meltdown]. I put that one on Bill Clinton. There was money involved there. I know there was. It was a corrupt decision. I would eliminate Too Big To Fail. They put together all those bailouts and the banks got bigger and no banker ever went to jail, only homeowners did. What kind of country is that?"

Buddy Roemer would have my vote. He seems to be someone that understands our financial system and how important the reinstatement of Glass-Stegall is to our economy.

Great article about Buddy Roemer, some excerpts:

The rest of them only tap-dance around the issues upon which Roemer pounds. They never link the forces behind the financial collapse with the forces now driving our new age of bagman politics. Most of them are against regulations of any sort, let alone the resurrection of Glass-Steagall.

It seems the only real renegade the Republicans allow into the big tent is Ron Paul, whom they all ignore anyway as a batty uncle who entertains the kids at parties. But the kids ought to know that it's Buddy Roemer who's stopped by the Occupy camp here to express his support, and who says, "The young people, they know what's gone wrong. That's why I love them."

My avatar changes with whatever cartoon / movie / game my 6yo is into at the time.

Thundercats has been a big favorite since Cartoon Network rebooted the series last year.
