    24 seems unthinkable.
Isn't 18 the right number for the Alliance?

I've always heard that 9 teams is the perfect number for a football conference, because each team can play 4 conference games at home and 4 away each season. It's the perfect balance.

With this theory in mind, it seems it would be favorable for both sides (MWC & CUSA) to have 9 members each, for a total of 18. Adding a couple of "crossover" games each season (1 home, 1 away) will take them to a total of 10 scheduled games, leaving 2 or 3 each season for OOC.

Because Hawaii is football only, the thinking is that an FBO is needed in CUSA and then two more schools for all sports so that there would be 18 all-sports schools but a total of 20 in the conference.

    I'm thinking 16 All-Sports, 18 Total:

    Nevada
    UNLV
    Fresno State
    Air Force
    Colorado State
    Wyoming
    New Mexico
    UTEP
    Hawaii-FB only

    Rice
    Tulsa
    La Tech
    Tulane
    Southern Miss
    UAB
    Marshall
    East Carolina
    Temple-FB only

Add Utah State to the West and FIU/UNT to the East for 20.

Just a fan board so take it for what it is worth. All in all sounds somewhat hopeful. Start at first page and go to the end (spoiler - ranges from no merger to merger that includes Tech).

Having the MWC commish be open about his interest in the Minnesota AD position makes me think this merger is a done deal.

Banowsky has been the one mentioned to be out...possibly going Big 12. Both of them possibly moving on means nothing regarding a merger.

Our luck would be for Tech to get into the merger and have Mr. Peanut Head tag along.

I find it interesting that SBC proponents think there is a reasonable chance that some of the CUSA teams might actually consider moving to the SBC. While searching for possible CUSA news I have run across a number of comments from SBC fans talking about grabbing some the CUSA teams when all is said and done. Not sure what they are smoking over there these days....

Probably better that Thompson leaves after this is over, I get the impression that he is not the most popular guy in the MWC. Always thought he was a pretty decent commish, but seems like that is not the general feeling out west.
