    I help engineers make money. But I work with smart engineers that manage complexities. Smart engineers might start off by modeling systems with first order principles, but absolutism is not practical with real world processes that are influenced by many different variables.

    CO2 can be measured, isotopes of atmospheric CO2 can be analyzed and modeled to determine human derivation, heat accumulation can be measured. The impacts of heat on polar vortexes and extreme weather can be modeled based on known principles and empirical data. These facts really aren’t materially different than what smart engineers deal with in industry.

    You’re obviously correct, but I’d think a decent chunk of folks - probably some on this board - would disagree with you.

    But never before, in all of the Earth’s warming/cooling cycles has the climate gone through the cycle WITH the contribution of huge amounts of anthropogenic CO2. Over the past 500,000 years, peak atmospheric CO2 was on the magnitude of 300 ppm. We are already 33% greater than that.

    Engineers are Scotty in Star Trek. Kirk says, "Scotty, I need Warp 10 now!" Scotty says, "She won't do that speed, Captain. I can't change physics."

    It's amazing that a fictional character from a 1960's TV show understands REAL science better than some of you do.

    As for "climate change" here on Earth, here's a hint. You can dazzle your friends with your knowledge. Ready? THE SUN!

    If you wackos really believe that then why aren't all of you riding bikes, etc? Been over this before, lead by example. Also, why in the hell would you anti-American globalists turn energy and industrial production over to the likes of China and India? Neither of them is nearly as clean or green as the US yet you want to shut down the US and allow them, and other global polluters, to have the keys to economic engine.

    I can answer this question for you. It's because it is not about bullshit "climate change." It's all about destroying America. You want to create a global commie utopia, whereby pain and misery is spread equally everywhere.

    Those arguments are infantile and have already been addressed.

    Real activists aren’t about shutting down fossil fuels immediately. They are about pushing the energy transition faster. Real activists recognize that energy (and fossil fuels) have dramatically increased standards of living. If you look at per capita energy demand and development (measured by people lifted out of poverty), there is a correlation. We know that when people are lifted out of poverty they will use more energy.

    The problem is that there is an external cost to all that and it isn’t priced into the fossil fuels. The cost benefit analysis is where adults have the debate.

    India and China are much greener than we were when we were at their stage of development. It isn’t right for us to just say that, although we dumped more CO2 in the atmosphere than you did to get to our wealthy state, you can’t take that road and you have to stay poorer longer by keeping your emissions on par with us (now that we have lifted ourselves out of their impoverished state and can more easily afford green technology).

    Are you gonna have a big basket for carrying stuff on your bike? Oh, and a little horn too? Toot! Toot! I recommend a flag, one of those orange ones. Won't guarantee some redneck in a jacked-up, with loud pipes, pick-em-up truck still won't run over you, but it might prevent a normal driver from hitting you. I would hate for something to happen to you.

    Maybe, but I am not going to be wearing spandex like you do.

    Hey, spandex is aerodynamic. You claim to be into science/engineering, surely you understand the concept of cutting down friction via wind resistance. But, I don't really like it, and usually ride wearing regular athletic clothing. I do not compete in bike races anymore...too old for all of that.

    the United States has emitted more CO2 than any other country to date: at around 400 billion tonnes since 1751, it is responsible for 25% of historical emissions;
    this is twice more than China – the world’s second largest national contributor;
    You didn’t know this?

    Just stating facts around here, even when the truth may be inconvenient.
