Brees wants 23+ Mill a year. That would leave the team bare. There was no way they could pay him that much.
And didn't he turn down a new contract prior to the 2011 season that would have made him the highest paid player in the NFL?
I've lost alot of respect for Brees in the last year - starting with the Rams game and how he stayed in to keep the "streak" alive to the way he his handling the new contract offer and now basically holding the entire team hostage...

Yes, I think the Saints tried to do what was fair for everyone, but Drew held them up, and now THIS is the result. And THIS is not good for the team.
Every time you think a player might have higher ideals than all the rest, he usually shows his true colors when money rears its ugly head. See Albert Pujols. See Drew Brees. See Lebron James. See Chris Paul, see scores of others.
I Timothy 6:10..."For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

I told my husband the same thing yesterday. I am very disappointed in him. I expected better. Anyone that can't live on $18 million a year to keep your team in tack is not a "team player" as he has held himself out to be. The team will unfortunately suffer for this in the loss of players that could have been avoided- but, I do believe his pedestal will be a lot lower with the fans of New Orleans as well.
The last thing I heard today on the Brees front was not very good. I do have some pretty good Saints sources. He is livid to get tagged and if you dont see him sign a long term deal by training camp be very worried.
I think we are fixing to see the "true" side of Drew Brees....
I realize its a business, but he was offered a contract that would have made him the highest paid player in the NFL....

Saints better be looking for another QB. This stuff doesn't usually smooth over.

Brees just lost Colston and/or Nicks. Guess he set all those records by himself
None of this matters. The Saints are about to be gutted like a bass being cleaned for frying. The party's over on Bourbon Street.

I hate to see all that the Saints are going thru right now. I don't necessarily like that Brees is acting the way it seems. However, they are grown men who could make a choice not to take part in a program like that. Also, in a league where EVERYONE is out to make the most money they can, why do you hold it against Brees. Like I said, I don't like it either, but there is always another angle.
