This thread is dedicated to Johnnylightin, he of the over 20,000 posts. I say he is a Tech fan of the highest caliber. Seriously over 20,000 posts, folks that is passion! But JL needs everyones help. He is trying to remember a very specific football game. This game was played sometime during the last eight years. At this time it isn't certain where this game was played. Could have been in Ruston or Shreveport. It also could have been played on the road. We are not sure where the game was played, but my man Johnny was there. Now here is a clue that should help you figure this out. TECH WON THE GAME! The opponent was a non-conference team. That team also finished the season with a winning record.

Here is the problem. I tried to tell my friend Johnny this must have been a dream as Louisiana Tech, our Bulldogs, have not beaten such a team within the last eight years. That's right I have already told him we haven't beaten a non-conference team who finished the season with a winning record in the last eight years.

I am pretty sure I am correct, but please try to help Johnny figure out who was this mystical opponent.

I apologize in advance for any typo, grammer or spelling errors. I seem to be the only non English major from Tech, funny when I went there Tech was an engineering school. Happy dreams to Bulldogs the world over.

It would be interesting to see how many non-AQ teams win a lot of OOC games against teams with winning records. I bet Boise has done well. I can't think of another non-AQ that beats up on AQ teams with winning records. Fresno used to do it a lot, but they've dropped off lately. It really is rare.

Technically, since the 2011 season is over, we have played 9 seasons since 2003. But it is true that in the past eight seasons no AQ team has rebounded after we kicked the dawg shite out of them. I guess that means we take the kill shot!

Why is this OOC thing an important stat anyway? Most of our OOC games are against larger AQ schools ON THE ROAD. That's an uphill battle to begin with. Yeah...along the way we probably should have beaten Army, Navy, Houston, Southern Miss and a couple of other non-AQ's.....but it ain't over yet.

And not all of our OOC opponents have winning records. We usually get 4 shots per year at OOC opponents. 1 of those is usually FCS, at least 1 usually ends with a losing record. It is a pretty limited metric, but we have come close quite a few times over the past few years, it just hasn't happened. If you told me we haven't beaten any teams period in the last 8 years who finished with a winning record that would be more troubling.

Don't forget either that there has been a pitiful lack of investment in the program for the last TWENTY years. The games we have won OOC, and the many games where we have played very well, are IN SPITE of bad/poorly paid coaches, poor facilities, poor or no administrative support, always in hostile environments and often being the second, third or even fourth road game in a row.

I am not proud (in fact, it makes me quite angry) to say this, but it truly is remarkable that Tech's teams have had the success that they've had, considering this two decade forced march through the desert.
