Though I enjoy these things, does this stuff ever lead to anything practical and useful?
The point is for students to get real, hands-on experience in designing, sourcing, fabricating, and testing a complex engineered system. So yes, this stuff does lead to practical and useful results, just not the ones you have in your mind.Though I enjoy these things, does this stuff ever lead to anything practical and useful?
Also, don't forget the media exposure (regional and national; print and television) that Tech gets for being part of the competition.
NASCAR driver AJ Allmendinger and Indycar driver Helio Castroneves "raced" the Tech Roadster around the course at the Shell Open. The race was recorded in Houston today as part of the pre-event activity surrounding the Shell Open and Eco-Marathon which both take place this weekend. The race is set to air Sunday on ESPN2 on the NASCAR Now segment "Digital Dinger" at 8 AM.528413_856725678208_49710633_36075214_1879425350_n.jpg538250_856727010538_49710633_36075219_831148233_n.jpg
That's pretty damn awesome. Just another reason for me to continue being a Castroneves fan.

An evolution of last year's stunner, "Hot Rod" took the Urban Concept Diesel Energy class win with a best run of 488.7 mpg.
Rightfully so, LA Tech also rolled in the "Best Team Spirit" and "Michelin Design Award" for "an impressive design while still considering aerodynamics along with creative graphics and paint work".
