    Kewl!

I'm an old forester myself. That was my first career, 20 years working for International Paper. Properly managed forests can produce all the wood and wood by-products needed and still meet all the environmental concerns. In fact, professional foresters are the only true environmentalists re: a forest ecosystem actually assuring the continuation of them.

Remember that movie "Last of the Mohicans" with Daniel Day Lewis? The producers were searching for a "virgin forest" to shoot in, so as to try to capture "the way America looked before evil white people destroyed the pristine environment" (might be slightly off, but that is very close to the quote of the movie producer). Imagine our surprise when IP was contacted asking permission to film on company lands in South Carolina, the movie folks had found their "virgin forest." We laughed at them. Well, not openly, but behind their backs. Shows how stupid some folks are. The so-called "virgin forest" they discovered was actually a 3rd Growth forest, planted by IP in the early 1950's. Most of the big trees the movie folks raved about were only 40 years old. Oh well....no need to bust their bubble.

Forest stewardship is something professional foresters believe in. And we were forest-friendly waaaay before the silly tree huggers came along.

BTW, I know all about the "cut out and get out" policies of some of the early lumber companies, a practice that existed into the 1930's in some places. Those people were NOT professional foresters. Gifford Pinchot is my hero.

I know.....got off on a tangent. That's a nice basketball floor they have there!
