From talking to my mom who lives in AR and from her talking to my brother who lives up that way, this seems to be pretty serious. I think there is a real chance they may fire him. There is a lot of pressure on the AD from both sides and he may well decide to go with the more "ethical" decision since he is going to lose supporters either way. At least they will look better in the national press. Otherwise, they get hit with the "win at all costs" charge. At this point I get the gut feeling that the odds are slightly in favor of firing him on the basis of hiring his girlfriend, but that might not make a difference. Remember as long as he is winning, the head football coach at the UA is the most popular and powerful individual in the state.
Of note, the two top candidates to replace Patrino if he is fired, at least mentioned publically, reside in Jonesboro and Birmingham and have never coached a game as HC at the BCS level. If one of those two is Patrino's replacement, that would be really crappy for those schools.
