I think not bombing them was the right answer. The miscalculation caused Trump to have to play the fool to avoid conflict. Would be funny, except the consequences of miscalculation in the theaters Trump plays fast and loose aren’t laughing matters.

Trump definitely made the right call considering no American life lost and especially while he's negotiating with China on trade (China buys a huge amount of Iranian oil and oil in general that ships via these straits). We have proof the drone was in international air space. Only Iran, no other nation, thinks their air space extends that far out into the gulf. Iran has been notified before by the UN and other entities where their air space, and waters, end. They are a rogue nation bent on death and destruction. Have to remember who they are.
