As we have all thought of late, the CUSA/MWC will be an alliance and not merger until the basketball units are decided, with TV and marketing figured out.
And TECH will be in!!
That's because each FBS league is required to sponsor at least eight women's sports and six men's sports, with at least six member schools competing in each sport. Based on the MWC's website, the league will not have schools in 2013-14 competing in baseball and men's cross country. C-USA also would need to add more schools to keep women's swimming as a conference sport.
Still a 'WILL BE' not yet an 'ARE'...

I admit I thought it would be a total merger from day one. I forgot about the BBall units being a tad tough/sticky to sort out correctly that quick.
I mentioned that in my argument months ago. I think the special exemption asked for on the MBB units and the playoff game thing was dismissed by the NCAA.
I like the sound of this. Relatively impartial 3rd party account.
With the merger unlikely, can someone say what this means for us? We are more likely to get into CUSA than to the Merger?
The conferences want to collect the exit fees the leaving teams owe them. If the conferences merge now into a new one, then those teams wouldn't have to pay. For cusa, I think the exit fee collection would be more than bb money.
