NLA needs to secede and be done with it. No taxation without representation!

It was never not a 4-year college. It was founded as a 4-year institution and has always been such.

The northern most LA rep is Walt Leger (District 91) representing St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington.

She is, but she is a ULL grad that lives in Carencro and represents a district in south Louisiana.

    You are correct...technically.

As an LSUS alum and as one who worked on the marketing plan for it, I am privy to some "inside" information and history. Let me revise and extend my comments...

It was never the intention of supporters/founders to establish a 2-year school. It was always the goal for it to be a 4-year institution. In other words, the school was not founded and opened in 1967 as a 2-year school and everyone was on board and okay with that, and then 5 years later, someone had an epiphany and said, "hey! I have an idea, let's make LSUS a 4-year school!" That was the original plan from the git-go and supporters agreed to open the school in 1967 because politicians told them "have to take baby steps, but we'll get you to 4-year status ASAP."

This makes LSUS different than the others, LSUA, LSUE, LSUC who all opened as 2-year schools and were perfectly okay with that being their charter.

I'm having a brain fart at the moment and can't remember the name of the key benefactor, a founder, some say THE FOUNDER of LSUS, but he was steadfast and determined that LSUS be a 4-year institution. The reasoning for his, and others', insistence plays into that old north vs. south Louisiana stigma. If "south Louisiana" was gonna have LSU-BR, then by God, "north Louisiana" had to have its own "LSU."

Whatever happened to UNO? It opened as a 2 yr branch as LSUNO and changed its name to drop the LSU sometime in the 70s. Is it still under the LSU board of regents?

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Univ...of_New_Orleans

In the fall of 2011 the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges gave approval for the University of New Orleans to join the University of Louisiana System, concluding the five-month transition from the Louisiana State University System since Act 419 of the 2011 Louisiana Legislative Regular Session was signed into law in July 2011.

And as long as most of the lawyers in Louisiana are LSU lawyers who also make up the legislators ........
