This gives the indication that CUSA may be willing to wait until June for a reply from ODU. However, I thought the June 30 deadline was mainly for schools who were doing the jumping to give notice and avoid big penalties. I thought the conference could add a school anytime as long as they agreed to. That said, is there a deadline for ODU to move up and leave the CAA (fees, penalties)?

According to the VCU fan board, ODU's BOD wants more time to look at moving up and CUSA has given it to them (take it for what it is worth).

Update:

Just found this and ODU, JMU, and Delaware were approached at the Final Four about moving up. ODU said no, but then the instability in the CAA caused them to reconsider. At least according to this report.

No reason for C-USA to rush at this point. But I would think early June would be the maximum timeframe for an answer because of the June 30 notice deadline.

The C-USA plan was (and likely still is) for 14 in basketball and other sports for 2013-2014 for TV contract purposes even if you don't factor in football.

Plus ODU has to declare its move to FBS to the NCAA by June 1 in order to reach full FBS status in 2014. 2013 games against ODU would count as FBS for opponents just like UTSA's will in 2013.

At least some close affiliation (and it seems to me that eventually it almost certainly would lead to merger) is definitely still being actively sought. Recall that our recent campus visit was by the commissioners from both conferences.

Makes our beloved new C-USA worse too. If we are choosing to align with "like-minded" Universities...MTSU does NOT fit the bill. While we have lots of challenges of our own, yesterday's news puts Tech in a REAL position to start fixing that stuff...from home attendance to budget.

NO to any more sunbelt schools.

Wouldn't it suggest a move by UTEP and one other team (UTSA or Tulsa?) to the MWC in the future to be 12/12? Then the CUSA west pod would bt UNT, Tulsa, Rice, Tech, Tulane, and USM.
