We are building an athletics program...

It's all in our hands as Fans, Alumni's, Student Body, the City Of Ruston and the University itself. This is whaat I've wanted since 1974. To have all on board at the same time, not in pieces. Many (LSU) fans have said we should know our place and not move up to Division 1, we're to small. I'm glad Thomas Edison didn't listen those critics about how crazy he was about electricity.

Guys, this can be done in Ruston. It's crutial to be in league where you can develop great rivalries all in driving distance. If you think small, you do small things...The Ruston Daily Leader is leaps and bounds ahead of the Shreveport Times and the Monroe paper. Although the Media did a good job reporting on yesterday.

So with all the work that lies ahead, can we put aside LSU program and look to ours with dedication for it's success. Every home game has to become an Event. Students will have to have a lottery for tickets just to be there, (example)...this has to start this year to show we mean business. Coming from the excitement of yesterday we're off to a good start !

how does Tech handle student tickets? When i was at FSU we had 18,000 student tickets per game for a student body of 27,000. tickets were only an issue for UM and UF games. for those games the students would have a weekend long camp out to get their tickets (you see this with Dook basketball tickets for big games too). it was a great way of building fan support for the games, and student involvement in the team as well as involvement in the university.

Should we wait until we start selling out The Joe on a regular basis before Tech starts talking out a student ticket lottery? Until The Joe sells out routinely, we need all the students we can get to fill up the stadium.

No tickets needed, just a valid ID. Shreveport games and selected other games require tickets.

For regular home games in Ruston, students use their Louisiana Tech ID card to get into all the games for free. Students do have to purchase their own tickets for the Tech-Texas A&M football game in Shreveport this year.

Re: We are building an atheletics program...

Great comments guys...What I would like to see over the next few years is to create an atmosphere of HAVING to be there. We're off to a great start from last year's record setting attendance - so how can that be improved? It has to come from the student body of LA. Tech, the City Of Ruston, the Alumni of the past and those in the future, LTAC donations and Season ticket holders. This board plays a BIG part and is read by thousands - yes thousands to get the inforamtion we need. The official Tech web site is another great way to get even more information on the other sports team's going's on...It's a Network !

I'ma huge Nascar fan now going on for 4 years now. I "have to there" at the Texas Motor Speedway twice a year and so do 145,000 others as well. Why do they "have to be there"?
What Im really excited about is our "student body" and their dedication to Building this program...you guys get it. Gameday should become an event in Ruston. Student's that have to work in Local business's should be allowed to leave a little early to be at the 6:00 o'clock kick off, if possible. This is a good example of the "having to be there"...This will actually affect everyone weather they go or not because of all the business brought in to Ruston and LA. Tech. It's in our hands now and judging from the turnout last Friday at the CUSA ceremonies - it's in good hands.

Granted, right now theres not an appropriate level of demand. Stadium reconfiguration will allow us to decrease capacity some which will help. Then the increased interest in C USA games will help some and your almost there. It would be nice to know what it feels like to actually have scarity regarding tickets. After doing this, when we reach near capacity, we can think about adding more attractive and desirable seating to grow further.

Now would be the best time to put together a plan for reconfiguring the seating areas for everyone and instituting a process for distributing student tickets when The Joe is sold out routinely. Worry about putting butts in the seats first, then put this plan into motion once no more people can fit inside the stadium.

I think we are going to have A LOT more fans in attendance once we start play in CUSA. Our opponent fans will no longer have to drive all the way across the United States from Cattle Gap, Egypt. So.....more fans from the other teams= more seats filled in the JOE= more $ for TECH.

70 Tech Grad - this is spot on - Visiting fans will be buying more tickets making a big difference because the drive will be much easier for them. They have to eat and sleep somewhere...if we grow like we want, that means more hotels and restaurants being built in the area. It snowballs from there.

I would love to see 1500 or so from our CUSA mates show up at a sold out JAS to see a game. We need to market to those schools as well, and make a trip to Ruston an event, instead of just a game. Make them want to come back next time and bring a few of their friends as well. Rice, UNT, UTSA, Tulsa, USM, Tulane, and UAB are all capable of bringing fans if they are doing well (that is another thing, we need them to be successful as well). I even expect a good turnout from ECU and Marshall coming down to see what all the fuss is about.

Like I said on another thread, we start out this year 2-0, I think we average 25K for the year. If we get average 8-9 wins and go to a bowl most years in CUSA, I think we could average in the upper 20's, close to 30K. We become another Boise, going to have to expand the stadium. It will take some elbow grease, but it is certainly doable!

I have never understood why so many of y'all WANT the opposing team to have a lot of fans at OUR home games. I don't mind them coming because I like to interact with them, but I would rather them not bring thousands. I like the opposing team feeling alone out there.
