    CUSA vs. WAC

How does CUSA compare to the WAC. We clearly have not been as strong as most of WAC teams. Will we fare better in CUSA?

Tulane isnt the power they once were pre katina but still solid. Rice and Southern Miss are always around the top 25. Dont know much about the others.

Looking at the current CUSA standings, Rice, USM, ECU, and Tulane are pretty good. UAB is OK. At least of the ones still remaining. UTEP and Tulsa do not play baseball.

CUSA would be the stronger baseball conference between the two now, based on current and next year school's with baseball programs in those conferences. If Rice were still in WAC as they were for several years when we initially joined the WAC, that WAC would just edge current CUSA since Tulane has drifted some since Hurricane disaster in NO years ago and slow recovery, but still pretty good slowly getting back to where they were.

Remember, UTEP, Tulsa, SMU in past, and now UNT do not have baseball programs. CUSA was going to be down to 6 baseball programs in conference, so they had to make sure they picked up schools that carried decent baseball, not great, to go with football and basketball programs. So having a baseball program for years and league we played in, including past with Rice, probably helped us as well contrary to what some may think as it was an issue talked about a lot in CUSA committe meetings since Fall. I thought there may be a possibility CUSA would make UNT start a baseball program as part of conditions and agreement since they can not go back on UTEP and Tulsa.

Tech will have to fund their olympic type sports much better than past, if they want to compete in CUSA better in those sports. We can no longer fund the way we did for those sports in WAC with old Southland budgets, in many cases, that were lower than some Southland budgets in some of those sports. No more pretending, have to act like they have been there....as the saying goes.

FIU has been respectable the last few years. C-USA membership will probably elevate their program even further in south Florida.
