Thumbs Up Ruston Gets Class II State High School Playoffs...

I'm seeing a shift in sports from Shreveport to Ruston as of late. From my valued sources (uh umm) it was told to me that Captains Stadium has been "condemed" because of NON POTABLE water (bad water not for drinking)...and non playable for awhile. OK - so the LHSSA looked to the leader in putting on such a baseball tournament at minutes notice and that was Ruston. I'm so proud they the City Of Ruston could oblidge, of which there facitlties are much better anyway!

I'ma telling you guys - Ruston is on the move in a lot of ways. Similar to Allen Texas, it takes leadership on how to grow a community and Ruston has plenty of room to grow! For a town to prosper it needs young families for it's support and future. A city full of retired folks is nice but growth is limited based on that, I would say.

Ruston is a College town and it's citizens have to have a great eduacational system in place to hopefully feed the college and then the college has to offer a multitude of courses to teach them with great professors. Things begin to snow ball when people want to build something GOOD. The spark was the atmoshere we've created with the hard work to get into Conference USA. That's the start of the snowball and then it starts to pick up more snow as it goes along...affecting a lot of people. Of course then Sun finally come's out, but that's when go after the Frigerator: the Fans, Season Ticket Holders, LTAC Donations, the Great Student Body and of course the City of Ruston - Great Coaching, our Dean and the Band Of Pride that really tops it off.

We have a lot to be proud of and it's only starting !

    Most does not cover all.

Attention seeker may be too strong. However, anything posted on the football forum will get more views than any other part of the board.

What I'm saying is for us to be successful at our level, La. Tech has to have a GOOD foundation to grow and become successful. You can't build a program with a declininig city and infastructure. When the city and it's citizens invests in itself - you have a better chance of success. Shreveport / Bossier have sold out to gambling or rather put their future in Gaming for it's future. It's like building your house in a swamp and hope it floats. If I were raising a young family now and had to do it in LA. it would not be in Shreveport or Bossier.

But you have to admit that Ruston has much work to do. Large amount of poverty, most employment is in the government sector & the largest block of voters do not really realize the potential that is in front of them. They cannot & will not put their moral values aside for the betterment of the entire community & region. Hopefully this will change in the future but it surely is and has beeen an impediment up until now. No offense to you "Rustonites!"

Ruston has some work to do that's for sure. But their realizing the potentilal they have because of the poor leadership in Shreveport / Bossier. When organizations can't find the results they want, they look at who wants they bring and will treat with respect. Ruston and the surrounding area are doing this as we speak.

dawgs1 - I am sure you are implying the current restrictions in Ruston on alcohol and or the hours and days it is available.
    I understand that.
But is any place "better" if people do not have moral values?

Apples & oranges. Shreveport hosts events like Mardi Gras (hundreds of thousands), Independence Bowl, Mud Bug Madness, Holiday In Dixie, & State Fair. Shreveport offers two airports, better choices of restaurants, night clubs, casino's, 24 hour entertainment & 24 hour taxi service. I am not saying that Ruston needs all of that but much of it will never happen until the voting block changes. And that won't change until more economic development happens. And more economic development won't happen until the voting block changes. You see where I am going here?

I attend every home game & usually arrive on Friday & spend the weekend in Ruston. It is 2000% better than when I was in college but still has a long way to go. Try getting a taxi @ 2:30 A.M. Not going to happen! Hotels are so-so & you still have to work at it to find a nightclub. In fact, there is not one for you if you are over the age of 26 & do not like rap. These are thing that I look for when I go to away games.

Please understand that I am not trying to tear Ruston down here. These are just some thing that need to be fixed. We already know that these issues that I just brought up will not be the case in San Antonio, Denton, Miami or Charlotte.

The high school baseball playoffs will not be in Ruston next year due to expanded WAC baseball with UTA, UTSA, Texas State, Seattle, Cal St-Bakersfield, and Dallas Baptist all coming on with only Nevada, Fresno, and Hawaii leaving. Will be a 10 team league with no weekends off. Same when we join CUSA.

While you say it is a question of "moral values" many of these other cities cite it as the cost of having nice restaurants, hotels and other ammenities. This is why I bring up the "voting block" in Ruston.

Ruston has been trying the "moral majority" since the beginning of time. How was that working out when you were in school? In my time, most of the students would pack their suitcases and go home. The "moral majority" had to swallow their pride several years ago because they had almost no dining options. I am not saying we need a "red light" district. THat is already available in Bernice. I am just saying that htere has to be a certain amount of buying in first & give & take secondly.
