It was a good event -
My guess was about 1200 to 1300 in attendance
The fish were good also, matter of fact they were real good
The only bad thing was the constant annoying chatter from the back of the room that the MC had to continuously ask for quiet during the speakers - I though it showed very poorly of our fan base
The best part of the night was when they honored Leo Sanford as the scholarship honoree - a much deserved honor
I thought Bruce handled the LSU-S question about as well as could have been handled, it really took the wind out of the girls sails real quick without being rude or condescending

I have to say, this was my first time to attend and I thought it was great. The wife and I will be in attendance next year. I would have guessed 1400-1500 total.
Which event is bigger?
Tech & Tails in Bossier or The Happening in Monroe
Tech and Tails was made possible by the NWLATAG group that was formed in the back room of a beer distributor one magnificent evening 5-6 yrs ago. That alone destined the group for greatness. Tech and Tails wins by default. Just my 2 cents but any TECH fan/beer drinker worth their salt should swear off any Budweiser products and stick with Miller. They have done so very much for us in the past and hopefully will continue to do so. Budweiser sucks anyway.

My first estimates on attendance is 1,100 - 1,200. You can't go by the ticket numbers because we sold three types of tickets. We are about 10-15 tables away from being forced to a larger venue though.
I really watched the talking crowd last night. Frankly, it's annoying but almost impossible to control. Believe it or not the problem wasn't the 10-15 people in the back corner, it was the 50 people at any one time getting up for various reasons (bathroom etc.). They get up, excuse themselves from the table, push their chair across the floor, walk to the back where they see someone they haven't seen in years, say hi, comment about how much fun this is, go out, do their thing, come back in, see someone else, you get where I'm going with this. We can't stop that. But we do need to try and encourage those visiting to go to the lobby. And that's something we will work on for next year. I heard some ideas last night from some and we will discuss those options.
Comparing Tech & Tails to The Happening is like comparing a football game to a basketball game. Some will enjoy one style over the other but they really can't be compared. These are two separate events designed to offer something different. They should not compete with each other in any way. In fact, they both, should be attended by everyone. Northeast area Louisianians should come over for Tech & Tails, and northwest Louisianians should go over for The Happening. I think both events show that LaTech has a huge following across the state and the history of these and other events across north Louisiana show those that fear the merger that LaTech is not just about Ruston.

I'm sorry I couldn't reply yesterday. I spent 14 hrs at the Civic Center setting up and working this event.
I don't usually post a list of items but I've seen quite a few charity events and I think our items are not only on the highest quality side but that we offer prizes for all types of people. $1 raffle for people that are willing to take a chance. Silent Auction for those that want to make sure they walk away a winner, and a live auction just for the excitement!
I have NEVER heard anyone say they were disappointed in our prizes.
I hope you enjoyed yourself. And I hope you come back next year.
Dim the lights before a speaker, instant crowd/noise control...
As Derek Dooley said a few years ago on live local tv from Tech & Tails - "This is the best and the most fun because they serve the most beer".
This is not the kind of event that the AD, coaches and other Tech administrators are ushered off to some side room where only those who have paid extra money get a few minutes of face time with them. This is the event where Bruce, Sonny and Mike walk in and anyone can walk up to them and shake their hand and say anything you want to them and have your picture taken. They can't run and hide even if they want to!
We will always try to do our best to keep the noise down while people are speaking and Tony did a good job of doing this last night but it will never be perfect and a lot of that noise comes for the reasons JAB stated in a previous post.
If you are coming strictly to hear the AD and the coaches speak and hang on every word they say you are going to be disappointed. If you want to come and see 80+ year old ladies outbid someone on the auction you are at the right place. If you want to see the tears flow from two tables full of family because their husband, dad and granddad is being recognized for not just being a great Tech alum and former player but more for just being the man he is - you are at the right place.
This my friends is Louisiana Friday Night!
3000 lbs of boiled crawfish, tray after tray of fried catfish, jambalaya, hushpuppies and coleslaw! Those who are in quest of trying to see if their beer cup really is bottomless!
This is where a 1000+ people are standing to sing our Alma mater and we are in deep discussion about college football in the middle of MAY!
So it might be a little noisy but I say....HOW 'BOUT THOSE DAWGS!
