    Super Conference Thread

To those of you who don't remember, when Boise was mulling the decision to go to the Big East last year, there was quite a bit of speculation in the media about the chatter of a Big East - CUSA - MWC three way merger. In some ways, it seems that this intial concept is what wound up triggering the MWC-CUSA merger that never actually materialized.

Now that we're on the "inside" and we know definitively which schools are involved, revisit the super conference idea from last year.

Here would be the workings of a 34-team conference.

    "BIG" EAST

    UConn
    Rutgers
    Central Florida
    South Florida
    Louisville
    Cincinnati
    East Carolina
    Marshall
    Florida International
    Temple

    CENTRAL

    UAB
    Memphis
    Southern Mississippi
    Louisiana Tech
    Tulane
    Rice
    Houston
    SMU

    MOUNTAIN

    Tulsa
    UTSA
    UTEP
    Colorado State
    Utah State
    Air Force
    New Mexico
    North Texas

    WEST

    Hawaii
    Fresno State
    San Jose State
    San Diego State
    Nevada
    UNLV
    Boise State
    Wyoming

-- Note that Navy is not included in Big East, nor Charlotte and ODU either. There might be more stipulations for those deals.

Market Power? This lineup would feature 5 teams that have participated in a total SEVEN BCS BOWLS

    **UL (1), UC (2), UConn (1), Hawaii (1), Boise St. (2)

The league would have FOUR of the TOP TEN DMA's in the U.S.-- and something like 18 of the top 50.

That's assuming the Big XII, SEC, and ACC doesn't pick up teams like Cincinnati, Louisville, UCONN, and Memphis.

Don't see how you can not include UNCC and ODU. They are part of CUSA. Probably not a problem because I don't see this happening without more BE losses so there would be room for everybody.

    Re: Super Conference Thread

I think domangue is on to something here but think it will be 32. UConn and Rutgers could end up ACC. Actually, depending on what FSU does, it could be USF, UCF, and UL too, but these teams could be replaced on the East side. Only other recommendation is that the sub-conferences are named after their primary times zones. Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific.

    Re: Super Conference Thread

I don't see how this mega-conference could work, but this it what it would look like.

    West

    Hawai'i
    San Diego State
    San Jose State
    Fresno State
    Boise State
    Nevada
    UNLV
    Utah State
    Wyoming

    Mountain
    Colorado State
    Air Force
    New Mexico
    UTEP
    UTSA
    Houston
    Rice
    Baylor
    TCU

    Central
    SMU
    North Texas
    Tulsa
    Kansas State
    Iowa State
    LA Tech
    Tulane
    Southern Miss
    Memphis

    East
    UAB
    UCF
    FIU
    East Carolina
    Charlotte
    Marshall
    Old Dominion
    Navy
    Temple

I think it's significantly more likely that the Big XII becomes the new Big East.

    Re: Super Conference Thread

It seems to be a given that the Top 4 conferences (SEC, Big XII, Big 10 & PAC 12) will go to 16 members each to form a 64-team premier league. With that in mind, don't you need to include the leftover ACC teams in your mix of 32 Super Conference teams?

I see the 32-team Super Conference including the leftover members of the ACC, the Big East, the MWC and CUSA. The question is, after the SEC (still need 2), the Big XII (6), the Big 10 (3) and the PAC 12 (4) pick their final 15 schools (including Notre Dame) to get to 16 each, who'll be left in the ACC, BE, MWC and CUSA to make up these 32 teams?

Remember, the Top 4 Conferences will pick 14 schools from this list of 47 (plus, someone will pick up Notre Dame):

    CUSA = 14 members
    MWC = 10
    Big East = 11
    ACC = 12
    Total = 47 schools
    Minus <14 schools>

That leaves 33 schools for our Super Conference, including whatever is left of the ACC & Big East. If they limit it to 32 schools, who gets left out?

Thank you for the leg work Dawg06. If you would - taking your work here, what would the super 32 look like similar to that which Domangue has suggested in the "super conference" thread?

There would be 36 teams left out, not 32.

The Big XII will not be one of the 4 super-conferences.

Mizzu to SEC: You're really nice, but it's just not working out.

Yep. Mizzou never wanted in the SEC in the first place. If and when the Big Ten expands, Mizzou will be part of it.

Thanks Dawg06, I see what you are saying, and it works well. Unfortunately as this makes sense, we will never see it unless the media forces it. You would think that the "well-educated" Doctorates otherwise known as University Presidents would have enough common sense to see the advantages this arrangement would make. Of course, being that it is all about money - what difference does logic make?
