You and Frisco should hash it out over whether it is appropriate for different people on a news agency to express different points of views.

The CNN reporting was stating truths at least.

The last time CNN came close to stating the "truth" was when Ted Turner controlled it and it originated in Atlanta in the OMINI !!!!

The likeness of these two were not constructed on the mountain to celebrate the fact that they held slaves. They were important founding fathers in the development of our nation.

The likeness of Lincoln was not made because he was a racist. He went to war to hold the union together and signed the emancipation proclamation that freed the slaves in states at war with the union (but not the ones in union states, yet).

Civil war statues are not there to glorify slavery, they are there to represent the Southern heroes in the struggle against creating a overbearing federal bureaucracy that takes power from the local entities (the states) and gives it to clowns in Washington DC. Likewise, confederate soldiers did not fight for the right to own slaves (very few did), Their state called upon them to fight and they did, and many died in the process. They lost, but they are still important figures in the development of our nation.

Martin Luther King Jr statues are not there to celebrate his serial adultery and mysogyny. They are there to celebrate him as the head of a movement to end racial segregation and offer civil rights to all Americans regardless of color.

These are all imperfect men, but together they make up the rich, though short, history of our nation. Mocking these images and tearing them down is just an asinine attempt by some to try and convince others that THEY are smarter and more virtuous than the great people these images represent. Also, I think the ones that say it's OK are mostly cowards that are afraid of the mob and believe they will be spared, but even the Seattle mayor found herself in their cross hairs after bending to their demands.

It is no different than ISIS destroying the historical relics of Mesopotamia because the culture when those relics were created was different than the culture ISIS approved of. They used the same "graven images" kind of argument someone uses on here!

Re: CNN Ratings Hit 20-Year Low...

Good post DawgyNWindow. That is correct, like the rest of us, those historic figures were imperfect human beings. Just watched that mini-series on George Washington. I learned a few facts I didn't know before, probably because the producers wanted to highlight some of GW's short-comings. For instance, when GW was president the capital was in Pennsylvania and they had a state law that said any slave physically present in the state for a period longer than 6 months is declared a free person and a citizen of the state. GW had house servants to attend him and Martha. So, every 5 1/2 months GW would rotate his servants, sending those back to Virginia and replacing them with others to start the 6-month clock ticking again. That's interesting and shows he believed in slavery. And...so? People can bash him for that...okay...but it does not diminish his great accomplishments as "Father of our country."

In the immediate aftermath of the Revolutionary War many, many, many supporters urged him to declare himself emperor, abolish Congress, and rule the country. The army backed him up too. They were ready to support him as emperor. Do any of you fully understand the ramifications of that? Do you truly understand and appreciate what Washington did for our fledgling nation? Remarkable self-denial and a true PATRIOT who saw the bigger picture. He said to his top advisors, and senior officers, "that is not what we have fought for." He didn't even want to serve as an elected president, but did so, for two terms, because he knew he, and he alone, was just the right person at that time to set the precedent for our nation's top office, and to guide the new country during those critical early years.

I could go, but you get the point. These remarkable men, with all their flaws, had more greatness in the tip of their pinkie than any 1,000 of these asinine protesters combined.

Traitors are not heroes. These "important figures" don't need statues, monuments, or anything else celebrating them. Having them glorifies their positions and you know they were wrong.

They fought for their beliefs. Why were they wrong? Isn’t it similar to the current BLM movement? If people could stop blaming color and find common ground, if we could sit down and actually talk without all the sensationalism, things could improve.

    Traitors?????

Not hardly. There was nothing in the Constitution that excluded the right of the southern states to leave the union they had voluntarily joined. As far as I know, there still is not, and I often hear the loonies on the left coast threatening to leave (no war needed...they may leave). That is hardly being traitorous. If it is, then this country is nothing but a bunch of descendants of ignoble traitors to the crown. In actuality, that is closer to the truth than calling the confederates traitors.

There are lots of southern crosses adorning the grave stones of my ancestors (one is even buried in Beauvoir in Biloxi). None owned slaves, most were very poor, and all answered the call of their state (mostly Mississippi) when they were called to fight the Union. You know, just like you did when Uncle Sam called...same thing in a land defined by state's rights. I never met a Vietnam vet that said they went off to war to "stem the spread of communism in Southeast Asia." They went because they were called.

    Traitors my ass.

Re: CNN Ratings Hit 20-Year Low...

Now Daddy didn't like trouble, but if it came along
Everyone that knew him knew which side that he'd be on
He never was a hero, or this county's shinin' light
But you could always find him standing up
For what he thought was right

He'd say you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
You've got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything

Now we might have been better off or owned a bigger house
If Daddy had done more givin' in or a little more backing down
But we always had plenty just living his advice
Whatever you do today you'll have to sleep with tonight

He'd say you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
You've got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything

Now I know that things are different than they were in Daddy's days
But I still believe what makes a man really hasn't changed

You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
You've got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything

    Good post!

Keep in mind that attacks on the Confederacy today are rooted in a new, modern attempt of globalism. It's actually not a new concept, however. Confederate General Patrick Cleburne warned all people, North and South, and across the world of "their designs beyond these borders." Another quote from Cleburne:

It is said slavery is all we are fighting for, and if we give it up we give up all. Even if this were true, which we deny, slavery is not all our enemies are fighting for.

Cleburne understood the "globalist" movement that was already a threat in the mid-19th Century. That exact term "globalism" was not used, well, I haven't seen it in any quotes or documents. Instead they referred to "the disregard for national sovereignty," and such references as that, and as he said "beyond these borders."

That is why entities like the CSA must be discredited, impugned. As anti-globalist movements stir up those supporting it must be shamed, frightened into abandoning their efforts.

It's history. I realize some are offended by things that happened a few hundred years ago, but look back at some of the things that happened several hundred years ago or even a few thousand years ago. Deluded because it is offensive? Is the Bible deluded?
