    Thumbs Up Olympic Dreams

ESPN97.7 had a good interview with Chelsea Hayes on Tuesday.

Chelsea is 100% all about LA TECH. She repeatedly mentioned how she was so proud and honored to represent LA TECH.

She's qualified for the USA Olympic trials in both the long jump and the 100m dash. I think she has a great chance to qualify in the long jump to represent the USA and LA TECH in London this summer.

    Hayes breaks Tech All-America records

Tech's Chelsea Hayes nabs All-America honors

Former Bulldog Mike Coleman qualified for the Olympic trials in the 200m!

Former Bulldog Jason Morgan has already qualified for the Olympics in the discus to represent Jamaica and LA TECH in London.

Bulldog Jason Morgan heading to Olympics

Best of luck to all three of them!

As for Jason "Thunder" Morgan. Well....Jamaica is the USA's biggest rival in T&F. But, he's also a Bulldog. So, if an American doesn't win the discus in London, I hope "Thunder" does.

He's also typical of every Jamaican I have had the pleasure to meet. I have a business associate who's Jamaican. Great personality. Always upbeat. Makes you smile, even on bad days.

Good luck Jason. Hope he makes a bunch of money on the pro circuit of T&F.

I saw Mike Coleman posted on Facebook that he was an automatic qualifier for the Olympics. Don't know what event though.

Tech's twitter says Mike qualified in the 100m. However, I checked out USA Track & Field's website, and it looks like he qualified in the 200m. That's awesome! He's currently ranked #22 in the nation. He'll probably have to cut 0.45 off his time to punch his ticket to London.

It looks like Chelsea is currently ranked #9 in the 100m. I assume a 4th place finish will earn her a spot on the relay team, and she's only 0.06 sec from the 4th best qualifying time. Also, it looks like Chelsea is ranked #8 in the long jump. I think a third place finish punches her ticket to London. I like her chances! Chelsea said that our coaching staff will be in Oregon with them.

In other news, ULL had a girl qualify for the Olympic trials. However, ULL won't fund her trip, and she can't afford to pay for it herself. That's criminal. And the trailers wonder why they were never considered by C-USA. ULOL is a joke.

ETA... Tech just published this press release: http://www.latechsports.com/sports/c...061812aaa.html

Hayes leads local Olympic trials contingent

Chelsea Hayes has won the 2011-12 Joe Kearney Award, given to the top male and female athlete in the WAC. Chelsea Hayes is the first Louisiana Tech athlete, male or female to win the Joe Kearney Award. Congrats Chelsea!

She runs the 100m tonight at 8:00 PM. Good luck to her!

Chelsea finished 2nd in her 100m dash heat to automatically qualify for the semifinals!! WTG Chelsea!!!

Chelsea got a tough draw for the semifinals as the top 2 USA 100m sprinters (Carmelita Jeter and Allyson Felix) will be running in her heat at 5:40 today. Only the top 2 automatically qualify for the finals, and there are only 2 wild card spots for the other 15 sprinters who don't finish in the top 2 in their heat.

She had the slowest reaction time of all 35 sprinters in the prelims, and she was the last out of the blocks in the NCAA finals. To advance to the finals, Chelsea has to get out of the blocks faster.

    Re: Olympic Dreams

They say it's not how you start, but how you finish.....well, in the sprints, how you start affects how you finish!

In the NCAA finals Hayes got left in the blocks and she effectively spotted the rest of the field a full stride. Given that she missed finishing in the upper tier in the NCAAs....by a stride....well...

Unfortunately, the new rule of just one false start automatically DQs ya, prevents a slow starter from trying to "steal" a start. Misstime it by a fraction of a second, and you're done.

Regardless, congrats to Chelsea for getting this far, and best of luck today and in your future.

Hayes advances to Olympic Trials semifinals
Tech's Hayes named WAC Kearney Award winner

The race is about to begin... in the rain...

    Live Stats: http://www.usatf.org/Events---Calend...F/Results.aspx

In the rain, Chelsea came in 6th in her 100m semis heat and will not advance to the finals. Slowest out of the blocks again... by far. Jeter and Felix win the heat as expected.

Now she can focus on the long jump.
