Mike Coleman didn't get an Olympic trials qualifying time until just two weeks ago on the very last day that you could earn a qualifying time. Not only that, his time was the exact Olympic trials A standard time. If he ran 1/100th second slower a couple weeks ago, he wouldn't have been an automatic qualifier to the trials in Eugene.
Once he got to the Olympic trials, he finished in 2nd place in his prelim heat, which shocked everybody. Now he just finished 16th of 21 in the semifinals, which doesn't qualify him for the finals. However, that's really good for Mike and better than everybody expected.
