Tech to demolish 9 buildings

They need to setup a pay-per-bid auction to see who gets to push the plunger on these buildings. If everyone who ever called Neilson and/or Caruthers home (myself included) placed a couple bids, we could actually see movement on the South end zone project and have money left over.

Dave Clark, former Tech student, said he does not mind the vacant buildings still being there on Tech Drive.
“I feel that it preserves history in a way,” Clark said. “It shows the progression of our school and the old ways of life compared to the one we live today.”

The odds that Dave Clark never lived in Neilson or Caruthers are approximately 99%. As much of a history nerd as I am, I'd pay for a chance to blow up either of those dorms.

I imagine they would go the cheapest route bringing the buildings down. I'm not sure they'll implode them. They took down Kidd Hall with a wrecking ball.

Gonna miss seeing "Go Tech" spelled out in window lights in Caruthers/Nielson. And, it's gonna look awful empty in that direction, looking from Aillet.

An empty space is must better than the eye sore it is now. The window lights Go Tech was pretty cool.

I know Dave and his brother (if it's the Dave I'm thinking of) and he definitely knows The Hut and such and was probably 99% saying this "tongue in cheek" (that's funny two times as he's an oral surgeon now and his brother-both of them with expansive and substantial dry wit- is a dentist

I have nothing but fond memories of living in Caruthers when I was there.

Old age will take care of those memories on its own. Take down the buildings the easiest/cheapest way and build something useful.

They are useful. Fully reparable and serviceable.

They just ain't pretty. The folks who want to see them removed would substitute their personal aesthetic tastes for responsible public spending. They would pretty police Tech's history until nothing but Keeny Hall was left.

and I remember reading in The Tech Talk that it would costs more to renovate the dorms than it would be to tear them down

I'm not saying it does, and I have no issues with tearing them down. I was just pointing out that not everybody had bad memories of living in these dorms.
