Not that you want to plant it in the projects, but that area isn't bad. Heck, I think First Assembly is out that way.

    Re: LA Tech at Shreveport/Bossier

    Y'all bring up good points.

Southwest Shreveport (where Tech's Technology Transfer Center is) is certainly not the ghetto like where Independence Stadium is, and I wouldn't call it crap. However, it is true that area has been in decline for a while as lot of people and businesses have moved out of that area.

LSUS is located in the part of Shreveport that is booming, but it's really not easily accessible by interstate highway. Shreve Park (where LaTech's Shreveport Center is) is easily accessible from I-20 and I-49. It's also located across the highway from the airport (and the Shreveport Gun Club).

Caddo Magnet High is in the ghetto.

FYI the 3132 Inner Loop Expressway was named Terry Bradshaw Passway several years ago.

I just drove around out there and took some pics. There were a lot of Tech cars in the parking lot. You turn right in front of the Evangel Football Academy's church to get to LaTech's Shreveport Center. Churches (not Church's Chicken) on every corner in that area.

I recall them saying that LSUS didn't have to offer any additional courses or add any additional faculty or facilities for those courses for the first two years of the program because they already have everything they need. I don't know how that could be possible. Sounds like some crappy programs.

Here is LSU-Shreveport's brand-new Honors Program:

    http://www.lsus.edu/Documents/Academics/CollegeOfArtsAndSciences/SchoolOfHumanitiesAndSocialSciences/DepartmentOfCommunications/Publication2.revised photo.pdf

From the LSU-S Commitment Plan (April 4th, 2012):

To enhance the advanced scholarship and service for students, honors courses will be available to all students in every major discipline. The courses will include a wide selection of lower and upper division class offerings, with a particular focus on developing strong writing skills.
From the LSU-S Honors Program website and brochure (June 2012):

We're looking for up to fifteen eager, high-achieving students to help us kick-off this brand-new program for the fall, 2012 semester! We'll have an exciting curriculum, an exclusive Honors Program Lounge, small classes and program activities designed for the student who is looking for a challenging and creative approach to higher education.

Applicants must achieve a minimum 3.0 high school GPA and score a minimum 24 on the ACT.

Currently enrolled students who meet those same requirements may also apply to the program.

Here is a pretty predictable post from ol Champ, but ...

Tech could position itself as a HERO to the SBC area by rehabilitating a historic downtown building as its primary Shreveport location. Close to the interstate, highly visible and an anchor presence for the ongoing revitalization of the riverfront. Adjacent to the region's core businesses, as well as retail, restaurants and culture.

And the PR associated with such a committment would serve to totally outflank anything the lowlifes at the lsu-system might have in mind for the area.

I agree, Champ. Would have to be the right building, of course, if one is available. But a highly visible Tech presence along I-20, downtown S'port, "saving" a historic structure, revitalizing the downtown, etc... yeppers! Got a winner there.

The problem with downtown is that there is no room to grow.

I wasn't even thinking about comparing the Honors Programs of LSU-S and LA Tech. I was illustrating what was promised in the Commitment Plan vs. the actual result regarding the LSU-S Honors Programs.

    Metro campuses are metrosexual.
    Jordan Mills on choosing Tech:
“It’s a great experience seeing them play. It was a good atmosphere. The fans stood up the whole game and never sat down. They have a great fan base.”
