    Re: The Olympics

The NHS segment in particular underlined how surprisingly parochial this ceremony was. The idea of the Health Service as a beacon for the world is, bluntly, a national self-delusion. Most other Western European countries have better state healthcare systems – and healthier people – than we do. Does the average Chinese person even know what the letters stand for?

Naturally, the pinko NBCers were all giddy over NHS. obummercare here we come! Where we too can have a too-expensive, ineffective healthcare system. Of course, the Brits are concerned, especially the Royals and other well-to-do's, right now they can hop a plane to the US and get real healthcare. After obummercare kicks in, the Brits will have to find somewhere else to go.

But, this thread is about the Olympics, not political issues. So, we return you to our regularly scheduled programming....

Exactly. But that NHS stick was for political purposes so it's fair game. I bet the majority of Brits jaws it the ground when that showed up. What a joke. I saw a commercial last night touting GE having to donated baby incubators to the NHS system that we see in our hospitals everywhere. I guess they've been doing without.

The person in charge of music needs to stop playing Chariots of Fire.

Australian women's relay team was pretty hot.

Question for you soccer people: why do the refs require players to lift their shorts and lower socks before going onto the field?

For those who watch on Channel 6 from Shreveport. Is the audio really bad on this station? Seems every time there is a big event on 6 we cannot hear the announcers over the crowd noise. It is NBC, is it 6, or is it our satellite provider?

Didn't watch on Shreveport's Channel 6, but I noticed frequently that the announcer couldn't be heard over the music or outside noise. I've looked forward to the Olympics for months, but am underwhelmed with NBC's coverage.

Real nice. Poor libs of our social media, along with NBC, can't handle the heat and shut down the truth like they do everywhere else. Sounds like what they did in Egypt and Libya when they shut down the critics via social media etc...

The British NHS, something to be proud of.....really? Did they really want to go there, and did NBC really wish to tout it as something to emulate? How ironic re: the GE commercial running on NBC as a sponsor for the Olympics, eh! Nothing more need be added. It speaks volumes all by itself.

There's been a lot of huffing and puffing about the Chinese swimmers possibly doping again. Though possible, I think Team USA need to look at themselves. They aren't only being beaten by the Chinese. And every time they are beaten it's because they slack off at the end. They don't finish strong, turn it up, have that killer instinct, or any other cliche you want to name. They slow down and stop giving their all as if expecting to win by default, and then are completely shocked when other beat them.

I believe I heard that the female gold medalist Chinese swimmer had a faster finishing leg than the male counterpart yesterday. Seriously!

That goes into what I said, they aren't finishing. Lochte slowed down (and has in every event), but managed to still win. His overall time of 4:05.18 was faster than Ye's 4:28.43, though.
