LSU is the only other school in Louisiana ranked, and they came in at #25.

Paying for your kids college education can be a daunting financial burden. Imagine for example, how much Rob and Carol Brady of the Brady Bunch would have to spend today if they were sending their brood to college. Absent any financial aid, it would probably amount to $1.5 million.. No surprise then with per student four year costs hovering around a quarter of a million dollars that return-on-investment or ROI is front of mind in many households.

Our Top 100 Best Buy Colleges are calculated by taking the overall quality rank on Forbes annual list of America’s Top Colleges and dividing that number by the school’s tuition (in-state where applicable) and additional fees. Our “quality rank” assesses each school in the areas of teaching, career prospects, graduation rates and the levels of debt graduates tend to amass.

The zero-cost service academies occupy the top three spots: West Point #1, the Air Force Academy #2, and the Naval Academy #3. In addition, there are many low cost college options for incoming college students who do not want to join the military. New York City’s Cooper Union, which grants full scholarships to all students, snags the #4 slot. Other enticing best buys in the top ten include the College of the Ozarks (#5), Berea College (#7) and the University of Florida (#10).

The Forbes rankings appear to be really skewed in favor of private schools.

It's really hard to compare small private liberal arts colleges to larger public research universities.

centenary is where people go to experiment with drugs and their sexuality. Beautiful campus that offers a great education but dang their student body is a bunch of weirdos.

I wonder if Centenary is inflating their ranking by essentially outsourcing its engineering program to other universities. According to their website, "Each student under this program pursues concentrated studies in the liberal arts and engineering sciences at Centenary followed by study in professional engineering courses at a cooperating university." The cooperating universities include Columbia, Texas A&M, and Case Western Reserve.

Ranking Centenary so high totally destroys the credibility of this poll. Simply put, Centenary doesn't have the resources to compete with LA Tech and many of the other schools ranked behind it. The Centenary campus is falling apart, and facility maintenance is a huge problem. They also recently devalued their sports programs (basketball dropped in classification a couple of years ago). There's no Enterprise campus, no "Lambright Center" for students, etc.... Ranking Centenary this high is silly.

Wow. That's some pretty impressive company we are associated with in that Top 25 list. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, CAL Tech, GA Tech Baylor, MIT, CAL, etc..... And LA Tech is in there TWICE: "in-state" is ranked #13 and "out-of-state" is ranked #25.

Forbes methodology is a bit weird. I'm not a huge fan of the US News approach, but Forbes hasn't gone in the better direction. They use some really bad methods for evaluating quality of teachers, for instance (like RateMyProfessor.com).

The problem with most of these ratings is that what they are trying to do is close to impossible and they end up using numbers that border on being made up.
