More perspective...
Financial resources make up 10% of the ranking.
Louisiana Tech's financial resources ranked #266 of 270 (5th to worst), but LaTech ranked #199 overall. We over-performed our financial resources by +67 spots.
LSU's financial resources ranked #119 of 270, but LSU ranked #134 overall. LSU under-performed their financial resources by -15 spots.
ULL's financial resources ranked #253 of 270, and ULL was unranked overall.
The financial resources numbers used by USN&WR are not endowment numbers.
ULL's endowment is just a little over $6 million larger than ours. That's not much relatively speaking. Tech's endowment is greater per student. ULL has more alumni, a much larger city supporting them, and maybe a president that emphasized it more.Financial resources(10 percent): Generous per-student spending indicates that a college can offer a wide variety of programs and services. U.S. News measures financial resources by using the average spending per student on instruction, research, student services, and related educational expenditures in the 2010 and 2011 fiscal years. Spending on sports, dorms, and hospitals doesn't count.
2011 Endowments
$1,004,738,000 - Tulane
$442,865,966 - LSU
$267,346,000 - Loyola

n/a - Centenary (I remember last year they were just over $100MM)
$69,626,515 - UL-Lafayette
$63,314,581 - Louisiana Tech
$54,789,255 - Dillard
$29,307,986 - Louisiana College
$23,157,741 - UL-Monroe
$19,766,068 - UNO
$16,287,118 - LSU-Shreveport
$16,159,557 - LSU-Alexandria
$15,652,870 - McNeese St.
$11,093,743 - Southeastern La.
$11,058,572 - Northwestern St.
$8,779,947 - Nicholls St.
$7,577,996 - Southern
$4,311,467 - SU-New Orleans
n/a - Grambling St. (imagine that)
n/a - Our Lady of Holy Cross
How do we stack up against our new conference mates?
Money, money, money. If everybody just donated $50 a piece every year just to an endowment of some kind it would be a tremendous stride in the right direction. It's all about the small donor in this equation. Last I checked that's us.

It's amazing to see how all of the Louisiana newspapers covered one story so differently.
