"Hard to win in Ruston"? What? That may be Dooleyspeak, but it is ridiculous. The fact is that Tech is #33 in winning percentage since 1945 (the modern era) among all FBS schools and #5 among the non-AQ's.

If he goes we get 800k from the buyout for a new coach. I hope Sonny stays but I also hope the university is preparing in case he doesn't.

He didn't say it was hard to win in Ruston, he said that's what others said when Dooley left.

"When Derek Dooley left Tech for the Tennessee Volunteers, he was 17-20 there, including 4-8 in his third season. Many looked at that, shrugged and said, Well, it's hard to win in Ruston.

Dykes, previously Arizona's offensive coordinator and the son of longtime Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes, didn't see it that way."

    My emphasis.

I hate to say this but Dykes is going to leave after this season. He will have a top 25 program on his resume and one of the most exciting offenses ever created. His stock will not be higher to move to a Arkansas or Texas Tech. I hope he looks at Dooley and see how quickly things can change. If he is happy in a small town without a lot of pressure, he should stay and build something great. Otherwise he will move to Arkansas and Alabama (Saban)will pressure the NCAA to end the quick no huddle without subs for the defense.

What else could you say when you hire a coach with a losing record. The last 5 coaches have won at Tech.

I always tell my children if they have to start the sentence with "I hate to say it" then it is probably something that shouldn't be said. I am sorry your mom didn't teach you that cscollis. You have no idea what is going to happen. No one does at this point. You might as well sit back and enjoy the rest of the season. Every new coach has been an upgrade lately, who knows what is in store for TECH in the next few years. Our future is bright!

We will have a mountain of resumes coming in for this job if he does decides to leave.
