I think all things considered, this is about as good as we could have hoped for. I *never* thought this concession would have happened... certainly better than a 7th access bowl with a dramatically lower payout!

It gives CUSA & MWC exactly what we have been chiming about for years... that these conferences is on par with the Big East year in and year out. And now we have the equal opportunity to take care of it on the field! Further, IMO the ACC might be the big loser in the matter... their one single access slot (Orange) is paired with the 2nd/3rd seed from the Big Ten. It will be a difficult proposition for the ACC to consistently get a second seed. The future might look like: Big 4 (SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12) + 1 Almost Big (ACC) + 3 Conferences to compete for the access slot (BE, CUSA, MWC) + 2 marginals (Sun Belt, MAC)

This could evolve into a number of scenarios down the road: How about revisiting the Big East/MWC/CUSA full on merger mega-conference to claim the de facto slot every year? You've got to think Boise/SDSU are already starting to reassess things already... particularly if the new TBD Big East TV deal isn't sunshine and rose petals.

Those 2 made a mistake, it has become obvious. Perhaps Houston, SMU and Memphis did too...

Honestly, 4 of those 5 made a mistake. Memphis is in for all sports and fits with basketball. The rest of them are just out of area and should definitely be reconsidering. CUSA and MWC could completely take over that one spot. I have no doubt that the 4 of them made a mistake. Not that we wouldn't have jumped at it, as well, but it is time to come back and let the Big East football be the low man on the pole.

They took it out a couple of years ago. The overly comercialization of bowlgames, has taken a lot of historical ramifications out of football. Use too people would brag about how many Orange Bowl appearances or Rose Bowl apearances. Now do you think anybody gives a crap how many godaddy.com bowls you have been to? Nope! Nothing will change with polls and computer rankings. We have to do what we did this year on a consistent basis and we will be in that spot.

Even though this is better than nothing, I still don't see why a lawsuit doesn't happen. If all 5 of the now "non-aq" conferences came together, it would be a win. The playoffs need to be expanded. All conferences on equal footing. Take the winner of each conference, seed them like in basketball by a combination of polls, computer rankings, rpi, etc... That gives you 6 games in the first round? Use the current bowls to do this. You could even go up to 12 first round games, if they wanted to favor the aq's with at large bids.

I think the action of a lawsuit is much like the road game chicken to see who will dodge first. The top 5 could always threaten to break away for the NCAA and not share any revenue at all but then they would be ineligible to play the NCAA member schools. So, it's a matter of whether the non AQ schools believe the AQ will leave and take all the money and still be able to survive or the AQ believe that they can survive and that the non AQ will indeed quit playing them for the big pay days.

You are correct, but I think the non-aq wins on this. The problem is if one or more schools start getting scared.

I agree. Or maybe not scared, but I could see the big schools making it too sweet for some to pass up. In fact, that might be how some of these non AQs have been getting some of these sweet home and home with some of these more prominent AQ schools.

6 bowls = 12 teams. 1 mid major, so we have 11 spots for the big 5. Assuming Notre Dame qualifies, then we have spots for 2 from each conference (or upto 6 SEC schools.)

What point is it to win your conference championship? (just the cash from the game)
