Sports Illustrated reporting that if Connecticut and Louisville leave that seven basketball schools could vote to dissolve conference. Has to be done before July 2013 when new football members join conference. By voting to dissolve conference schools do not have to pay large exit fees and could collaborate and form own conference.
UCONN & Louisville will probably be gone in the next week or two, then there's no reason for Boise & San Diego St to stay around

No way the BE dissolves. They can still have any CUSA, MWC, SB team they want.
It's gonna be a basketball move, and I'm telling ya they want no part of the Belt/CUSA or most of the MWC. There will be a BIGeast of some sort but not with the name and probably it will be far more regionalized. CUSA will end up the same. The question is how much of the BigEast will be swallowed up by the MWC and how much of the Belt will we be stuck with.
The league is almost certain to lose UConn or Louisville, but losing both would require further movement from the Big 12, Big Ten, or ACC (beyond 14).
I don't expect it to happen, but to be honest I wouldn't mind a split too much. It'd strengthen the case for the non-BB schools to get whatever waiver is required to form a Big Metro conference or whatever and invite whomever they (we) want for all-sports. Take the remaining six or seven, add the upper tier of Conference USA (Tulsa, LaTech, USM, ECU, and a market school or two) and that'd be an improvement over the situation we're leaving.

I'd take that, bit almost a scenarios have us on the without side again and that's most peoples big fear.
after things quit shaking (major conferences taking who they want), I believe remaining teams (Sunbelt, CUSA, MWC, independents) should split up regionally into west, central, and east conferences calling themselves whatever they want. Makes sense travel wise, and rivalry wise. The highest ranked team would still go to BCS game.

The original story came from the Providence Journal, and it reads much more like a speculation piece than anything else. It also doesn't go into the negatives and what the privates would be giving up, given the fact it's almost impossible to form a new conference under current NCAA rules. They would also be giving up the Big East brand and would be facing legal action from schools like Houston, SMU, and Memphis. In the end, if they really want to leave, they will likely have to do it by simply leaving the conference.
Louisville now gone, Connecticut and Cincinnati want out. Big East is now CUSA, and CUSA is now Sunbelt.
And WAC is now MWC. Crazy.
