CUSA Bowls
Below is from Dallas Morning News today. One would think they would want a future conference mate to fill open spot?
UNIVERSITY PARK — Conference USA has seven bowl tie-ins but only four bowl-eligible teams, including SMU.
The winner of the C-USA Championship game between Tulsa and UCF will play in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
According to the C-USA web site, the league has tie-ins with the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl in St. Petersburg, Fla., Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, Military Bowl, R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl and the Heart of Dallas Bowl.
There is no pecking order. Since C-USA will not be able to fill all the spots, determining the bowls could take a few days. Much depends on negotiations with other conferences and bowls.
The Mustangs’ run of four bowls started with the 2009 Hawaii Bowl, which was the school’s first bowl appearance since the 1984 Aloha Bowl.
The seniors hold two major distinctions: taking SMU to its first bowl in 25 years and playing in a school-record four straight.
“I think ending the streak was by far the top one and this one seals it,” linebacker Ja’Gared Davis said. “It puts a cap on all our careers here. It’s a great honor to all the seniors.”
