Ask any team in the Sunbelt if they would rather be in C-USA or the Sunbelt and I think you will find a difference...

If CUSA can keep Southern Miss and Tulsa I will agree with you. If not, there isn't much difference b/t the 2 leagues. TV packages can be renegotiated and both conferences have 5 bowl teams this year. Not much difference really.

That about sums it up. The best we can do is figure out how Mississippi State manages to get that stadium full for Saturday's and follow that plan. I guess being in the SEC helps just a little.

This. There will always be one crucial difference: Conference USA can add whomever it wants from the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt cannot do the same.

The BIG EAST isn't rocket science...

If we have any remote shot to jump with the Big East, we have to dust off the geography map. (and maybe the fruit baskets as well)

If they view a core grouping of SOUTH/CENTRAL regional teams as crucial to the success... Houston/SMU/Tulane... then add in Tulsa, Southern Miss, Rice, and then us right in the middle of all that.

We absolutely must make the case that our tremendous alumni base living in Houston, Dallas, and New Orleans make us a strong *REGIONAL BRAND* that enhances market penetration in those cities.

And be in a conference with 2-4 more current FCS schools than the Belch has now?....no thanks.

It isn't as good as we wanted, but it is light years better than having no conference (WAC) or the Sun Belt train wreck with Benson as engineer.

And they have zero leverage because it's almost impossible to start a new conference under the current NCAA rules. Besides, over the past few months, in their TV contract negotiations, the Big East has learned how badly ESPN wants to keep the basketball portion of the deal.

Given those two facts, they've moved forward with all-sports expansion. But like many others, I am surprised that it was Tulane over Tulsa. The TV markets are actually somewhat similar, especially given the fact people in Tulsa actually watch Tulsa sports.

You being "The HISTORIAN" will appreciate that probably 90% of Tulane's student body is out of the NE US.
