News received on the other side of the world

I'm in Japan for work and just got the news...

I'm in shock, appalled, angry, and every other negative emotion. But mostly, my heart goes out to the players. You guys deserve better than this. The entire situation is completely surreal.

I would ask what happened, but that seems to be the debate of every thread.

That being said, ALL Tech fans deserve an explanation from administration officials on what happened. Silence is not an option here.

The answer is simple, they claim to have declined the offer to play in Shreveport to wait on a better offer. However, the rest of the world knows the real answer.

Actually, they never declined, just requested more time to see how everything was going to shape up. The Independence Bowl did give them some time, but not enough time.

No, I'm wrong. The Independence Bowl said Tech did decline at one point, but the they called Tech back some time on Sunday to tell them the spot was still available. And then Tech asked for more time and Tech ran out of time before they called Ohio.

We are just thankful that we are not in the meltdown mode like ULL for being left behind by CUSA again and are forever stuck in a Benson-led conference! It's also great lmowing that playing a Belch school on a bowl is NOT considered a reward.

Good point. Short-term, we are going to take a hit. Long-term, we should be fine.

There was NO chance, EVER, of a Tech-ulm matchup. ESPN did not want that. It was gonna be Ohio vs either Tech or ulm.

Just like in 2008 when we played NIU. There was NEVER any possibility of a Tech-ULL matchup that year. Was NEVER gonna happen. Again, ESPN is looking for the best possible TV coverage, and that means having teams from different sections of the country playing. Period.

I don't think that's true. ULM was invited and as of Sunday morning the I Bowl still wanted Tech. It's clear to me that as of Saturday, they wanted Tech / ULM.

Now if we would have accepted on Monday, we might could have told them we prefer Ohio over ULM.

Why is every major news outlet and about 95% of the country is saying that Tech declined because they didn't want to play Louisiana-Monroe, yet the local outlets are saying that isn't the case? I really hope it's because the I-Bowl didn't wait and not because Tech is dodging Monroe. At the same time howeve, when you finish in 3rd place in the WAC and have senior-heavy team, you should take whatever you get.

The local media started the ULM stuff, then started reporting more facts as they came out. The national media has not caught on to the truth yet.... and probably never will.

We were willing to take the Independence Bowl, we just ran out of time to accept it because of NIU going to the Orange Bowl. That blew everything up on Sunday and we didn't know what our options were.
