Let's Stop Thinking About Us and Start Thinking About the Players

the biggest thing, which may be the reason we are out of bowl game, is that this isn't something for the fans. It's a last game for the seniors and chance to get better. If LA Tech was playing Northeast Louisiana Technical College, it would still be worth it. No matter where you go, who you play, the bowl treats the team as royalty and it's a great experience for the players.

You play the team you are given. If you think it's an embarrassment to play ULM, then we go into the game and kick their butt by 50. If we don't then what did we ever have to complain about. This time of the year offers team growth and a last time for players to be able to get national publicity to move to the next level.

I hope for LA Tech that this never happens again. If you do not have anything set you take the best option before a deadline ends. It's better to have 20 extra practices and a chunk of change in our pockets then nothing.

Stop worrying about who, which led us to where we are and think about the players. The only true people hurt by this. Yes, fans lose out but the players lose the most.

THANK YOU 2012 SENIORS FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID!

The university needs to do something for the seniors. I don't know what but they need to try and make this up somehow. It's just not right for it to end like this for them.

Re: Let's Stop Thinking About Us and Start Thinking About the Players

Except, it's not about the players and there is no extra anything that prepares the team for next season. This is as big a misconception as anything else that has been talked about recently. It is all about making money. Absolutely nothing else. Players don't (usually) spend hundreds or thousands of dollars going to bowl games. Fans and sponsors do.
(Failure to complete the objective doesn't change the objectives goal.)

Also, bowls are about to become even less meaningful when the playoff starts. Frankly, if you're not in the playoff it ain't worth the extra expense. For schools like Tech, bowls are nothing but expenses that sometimes might get covered but mostly never will.

    Of course, all imo.

It would really be cool if we could organize a game against MTSU. Can anyone make that happen? I mean, is it possible?

    Absolutely, bowls are about money.

But the point that began this post is that it's an experience of a lifetime for players. And even if you think the Independence Bowl is not a premier bowl, it caters to the players. They are treated to gifts and in a town like Shreveport they are the big fish in a little pond.

It's done and over now. These guys are heart broken. There's really not much you can do for them now except hope they graduate with their degrees and enjoy the real life after football since that is where most will end up.

Good post! And no matter what the bowl is.....the spending cap for players is exactly the same so they would have received the same value of gifts from the Indy bowl as from the Orange bowl.....

Play the team you're given? Bull. If you can't play in a bowl against a team that enhances your reputation, sit out. NOBODY cares about this game except a few people in Monroe and Ruston.

I hope Tech makes the same decision every time they are faced with eating crap on the road or turkey at home.

They wouldn't do that... especially with an actual losing team (Ga Tech) in a bowl game.

I think it would be an "in your face" move against the bowl system. It might remind them that this is amateur athletics and is supposed to be about playing a football game rather than political moves by adults who act like children. It might even become a movie some day.

i have no idea who you are. a lot of people on here seem to think you are some one who is on the "inside" and have some information a lot of us are not exposed to and maybe you do. and i agree with much of what you say a lot of the time. although i have no idea why you seem to hate any poster from another school, even when they are not flaming.
but when you say it is better for us (meaning all of tech...the players, program, donors, recruits, and fans) to sit out a bowl then to play in one then you lose all credibility.
a bowl gets you: all that lost practice time for underclassmen; reward for the players, especially the seniors who are now screwed; keep the fan base engaged; oh yes, and not making yourself the laughing stock of college football. if thats what you prefer instead of playing nlulm in a bowl then there is no arguing with that illogical a statement. enjoy the silence this bowl season; i know i won't.

    Maverick,

I was just thinking the same thing as you today. If Tech really was screwed by the Liberty Bowl (as has been reported) we should petition the NCAA for a non-sanctioned Bowl game & extra practices vs MTSU (the other team left out). Screw the Bowl system this year. What would be classic is that if the game were approved, we could play in Shreveport & probably dwarf the attendance of the I-Bowl. We could evewn name it the "Toilet Bowl" just to keep it real. This could be a marketing dream & still accomplish the goal of extra practices & giving a reward to our players. It would definately be worth a shot. I would even go as far to say as there might be some tv possibilites if the NCAA would allow it. That being said...it has about a 5% or less chance of happening. But what do we have to lose by trying?

Re: Let's Stop Thinking About Us and Start Thinking About the Players

I thought of playing Ohio State in an "exhibition game" on December 28th and pitching it to Fox.

Makes sense if its "legal" by NCAA rules
