I felt compelled to come make a post here tonight....

As some of you know, I have made numerous posts on your board in the past. Also, as you all know, this has been a nightmare of a season for my USM football team. Just didn't feel the joy this year. After 18 straight years of winning seasons, going 0-12 was a cold dose of realism for USM fans. Hard to post on our own boards, much less any other team's board.

Now for why I am here tonight. During our morbid season, I followed your team closely. Watched several of your games and still remember the excitement of that second half against A&M. Your team provided some real fun for me. The final minutes of the Utah State game were incredible. I really saw a BCS bowl in your future. Then the heartbreak of the OT and the loss. Then the San Jose game was tough to watch. Just as USM blew a BCS game last year with a dumb loss to UAB, your team fell short also.

Now to see your football team get left out without a bowl is just beyond disappointing to me and I know all of you and your players. It was just a miscarriage of justice, regardless of anything your AD did with the Indy Bowl. NO WAY a 9-3 team should ever be left without a bowl when 6-6 teams are going. I truly feel for all of you and especially your players.

Ok, so now we both move on to next year. We fired our idiot of an excuse of a coach and are now about to hire a new coach and I truly believe we will not blow this hire. We just can't. Can't happen. Now your program moves to CUSA. As a charter member of CUSA it is hard to see all our former CUSA mates move on to the BE. When SDSU is in the BE and Tulane is in the BE, how can it be anything but stupidity, but such is the world of college football we live in. Ruston and Hattiesburg don't have the tv sets and so what do we do now?

I tell you what we do. USM comes back with a vengeance and Tech comes into CUSA pissed off and ready to kick ass. Winning cures all problems. I am convinced USM and Tech will not only survive, we will prosper. Our 0-12 season and your not going to a bowl will be in the past. While USM will have a new coach for sure, it is possible Tech will also. I hope not, but like when we lost Fedora, it happens. I hope we both make great hires and start kicking some ass as CUSA mates. We both can and will do it.

Ok, I have said enough. Congrats on a great season and while I know the last two games and the bowl crap makes it hard to feel great right now, it was a great season and you should be damn proud. Next year Dogs. It starts as conference mates next year. Can't wait. Peace and out.

If you thought in any way, shape, form or fashion I was comparing our 0-12 season to your season because of the bowl situation, then I apologize. In no way was that my intent. As I stated, you had a great season and as you stated, you have a lot to be proud of.

SpreadEagle, thanks for the post. It represents the vestige of what has been good about college athletics over the decades - love for your own school, but respect for what is good in the others. In other words, class and sportsmanship. Southern Miss has been a model program to many for a long time. The Golden Eagles will return. Looking forward to being conference mates.
