No doubt BVDV is a piss poor AD...but he is being led by the ego that is DR! A foot-dragger leading a moron...not a pretty picture!
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?
Collasal failure. The fact that people support his actions illustrates just how dilusional some of our fanbase is. It is also a huge part of the problem.
Bruce didn't just take the bowl rep at his word, he got the WAC commissioner to verify their commitment. Which he has publicly stated. There is every indication that this is fact.
Oh, well in that case there was no need for a written agreement. See ya at the Liberty Bowl!....... Wait, What, it was still a stupid decision to take the LB's word for it? You mean the outcome is the same no matter how many people the LB people lied to. Well that sucks.
For those of you who have blinders on or are so old that memory fades, more good has happened during Bruce's time at Tech than happened under any AD in Tech history. For example:
- Tech football scheduling significantly improved (probably contributed to 2012 success)
- Tech football reached ratings heights never imagined
- A&M game in Shreveport was a major success
- Tech football home attendance reached 26,000 avg.
- Tech MBB turned around from the bottom of the barrel
- Q4E kept alive despite DR's best efforts to kill it
- Game day environment steadily improved each year
- LTAC donations improved despite poor leadership on the part of the foundation
I could go on but I suspect that there are those who will discount what was accomplished in the hope that we can get another amateur (maybe an Oakes).
Like I have said, the man did not make a decision in a vacuum, but the decision was the correct one. The only fault I can see is not getting an iron clad agreement from the Liberty Bowl on a legally binding document (2.0 that is), but, come on. The WAC Commissioner backs up his story. I would bet you a dime to a doughnut that, under oath, DR and SD would as well. Both of them are on their way out, so it may take a binding statement to get it out of them.
Maybe what needs to be taken from this debacle is the AD's position and authority must be divorced from the president's office and "influential" supporters". Too many cooks spoil the broth. Let the position live and die by it's own decisions. Everybody else......keep away!
I support Bruce 100%. College football and bowls are a very corrupt business now. You can't trust the coaches or anybody else now. Throw the morals out the window. Did anybody else happened to notice that Georgia Tech is in the Sun Bowl with a 6-7 record? I read somewhere that Ga Tech petitioned the NCAA bowl committee to allow them to play even though they had a losing record. The bowl committee turned them down, but the president of the NCAA, Mr. LSU man himself Emmert, overrode the committee. So we could have been in the Sun Bowl if not for a lsu guy.
70 of 72 bowl eligible teams went bowling. We are 1 of 2 staying home! There is no excuse! No acceptable reason! Anybody that presided over this colossal screw up MUST GO!!! Anything less than that is unacceptable!!! How anybody could feel otherwise is just flabbergasting!!!
