Hi, Duckdog. Welcome to the board. You'll find that things will go smoother for you if you first look for existing threads on a given topic before posting a new one. There are already a couple of well-developed threads on this topic, with rich discussion about many of the candidates you propose.
No "Recycles".
Nick Saban has a son we might want to take a look at. I don't think he is a football coach, but if we are going to continue our trend of hiring coaches sons, might as well start at the top.
1. Cliff Kingsbury - OC, Texas A&M - Very young, lots of risk/benefit calculations
2. Todd Monken - OC, Oklahoma State - #1 choice for a lot of us
3. Tony Franklin - OC, LA Tech -Made up his mind to make a new start, going to California with an aching in his heart. Took his chances on a big jet plane, never let them tell you that they're all the same.
4. Brent Pease - OC, Florida - I suggested him in another thread, has that Boise pedigree
5. Bobby Petrino - More baggage than a 747 headed for London, plus he will be gone two years, if that long
6. Houston Nutt -after Dykes, we do not need a Nutt
7. Dan Hawkins - No Zen gardens in Ruston
8. Mark Mangino - this would be a HUGE hire for us!
Geez people.....some of your recommendations aren't qualified to wash my underwear.
These 2 guys know how to win at our level, and they don't job hop.
Jim Leavitt

Jeff Bower

These are real head coaches that have had huge success in the past. They actually KNOW what they are doing. Furthermore, we might even be able to KEEP these guys.
But does Bower even want to get back in the game? Im assuming he is not coaching presently.
Those guys will consistantly get you 8-10 wins a year and Bower at least, would stick around awhile. Might be hard to pry Leavitt away from the NFL. My main concern with them is that while consistant 8-9 wins, that was about their peak. The best Leavitt ever did was 9 wins and 3rd in the conference. Bower's best was 9 wins, but he did win the conference 4 times and tied once. They will have winning records and get us in a bowl, but can they get us into one of the big 6 bowls coming with the playoffs?
Maybe
