    Putting politics aside

Well, Obama is promising to put politics aside and "do something" to keep the kinds of incidents from happening that have been happening with alaming frequency.

Naturally, this means he intends to focus on gun control, becuase when he says to put politics aside, that means you need to put YOUR politics aside and allow him to dictate policy. But if he is serious about really finding a solution, he needs to figure out what is different now from when these types of incidents were rare.

    You know...stuff like:

The disintegration of morality in America. As an example, whodababydaddy tv is rampant between 9 AM and 3 PM.

The unwillingness to claim anything is "normal" in the fear that someone's feelings may be hurt. It's still OK to live out of the norm, but the rest of the country should not have to abide by YOUR choices if you do not conform to that norm. Defining a norm is how you identify people who may commit these types of actions, and once you spot them, try not to define their abnormality as a disease worthy of protection.

The unwarranted graphic violence on television and in the theatre. We are way too accustomed to seeing people shot and seeing dead bodies strewn about.

Turning our backs on our own religious heritage to make sure other faiths are not not made to feel unwelcome. Jesus ends up being a comical figure on late night television while the religions of other cultures are held in reverence. IT's just so cool to make fun of Christianity.

Putting certain groups, like single mothers, on a pedestal. Nothing particulary wrong about being a single mother because there are many fine single mothers out there (it happens through divorce and the death of a spouse often enough), but it is absolutely held up as some sort of ideal these days. If you are out working to provide for your children, and dating in the evening, you are probably letting the scum in Hollywood raise your kids...and they are being exposed to graphic sex and violence.

I think guns have always been around here in America, so let's turn this warning into a national rebirth instead of a catalyst to push us further down the path to being another Europe. This stuff isn't hard to identify, but talking about it likely to offend more people than "high capacity magazines".
