Nebraska used to be AAU until they were voted out. UMD and Rutgers both are.

Good luck, since membership "is by invitation", it seems to have much more subjective than objective entrance criteria.

Article on Nebraska getting kicked out (stabbed in the back by UM and UW).

Since AAU membership, according to the article, seems to be required, UNC/Duke/GT would be the obvious candidates if the B1G did decide to raid the ACC again.

i'm not putting ANY stock in that particular rumor. all of the credible sources like McMurphy indicate that the ACC will stick around alive and kicking.

BUT it is always worthwhile to take a look at the rumors. that is one particular one that i don't like very much. hopefully that one won't grow legs.

Update from ESPN's Andy Katz: http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebaske...ble-candidates

The departing Big East 7 are still negotiating their exit from the Big East and are far from finalizing a date to withdraw (although the exit is likely for the fall of 2014).

The league still needs to lock in on a television partner (Fox, according to sources, the leader in the clubhouse) and a commissioner.

But a number of sources have made valid points for additional schools the Big East 7 will go after, with the consensus being Butler and Xavier to get to nine.

The 10th spot has interesting candidates, and while I have heard strong Richmond arguments for that spot, the Spiders may end up being more of an 11th or 12th member if the league decides to go that far.

There is a definitely a push in one key corner of the seven to add Creighton because of the Bluejays passion for hoops, their facilities and following.

I continue to hear conflicting opinions about whether or not distance matters in this new league. What isn't negotiable is the 7 want/need the schools to be all in for basketball.

Re: Big Priest Conference TV deal and expansion

Notre Dame announced yesterday that they are staying in the Big East for one more season before going to the ACC. I think their men's basketball coach mentioned that in a press conference. He also said that he expected the 7 Catholic schools to stay as well. That probably doesn't make a huge difference to the people they have approached about a new conference, but it gives them a little time to build the new group.

    Good stuff today....
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...06b_story.html

    - Dayton, Xavier, Butler, and Saint Louis appear to be locks.

    - Creighton appears to be too far west. The Valley lets out a huge sigh of relief.

    - It appears the presidents don't want any public schools even though the TV network reportedly pushed for VCU.

    - Siena (Catholic, Albany) and Detroit (Catholic) have entered the picture.

    - The final spot will likely be between Richmond and Siena.

    - Detroit would replace Butler if they decide not to join as the only non-Catholic member.

    - George Mason's AD is the favorite to land the league's commissioner job.

According to sources familiar with the talks now being held among the Catholic 7, the group will initially focus on a 10 team conference, which would mean invitations to Butler and Xavier of the Atlantic 10. An internal tug of war over the 10th team is being waged with Marquette leading a charge to include Creighton, while Georgetown and the Eastern Catholic schools are focusing on Richmond of the Atlantic 10.

Although Fox sports, which has tendered a tentative offer of 40 million a year for broadcast rights, which would start as early as the 2014 season–the push to begin next season is losing power and no likely–has indicated it would like to see 12 teams, the initial thinking among the Catholic 7 is to go with 10 schools, which would allow for a double round robin schedule of 18 conference games. Such an arrangement would also allow each school to include high profile–and television friendly–non conference games as well.

Administratively, the Catholic 7 may also be closing on a commissioner to guide them through all of these issues. Don’ be surprised if the Catholic 7 Presidents look west to West Coast Conference commissioner Jamie Zainovich.

Fox is putting pressure on the Catholic 7 to leave the Big East and begin their new conference on July 1, 2013, a year earlier than has been anticipated.

The Catholic schools are also expected to purchase the Big East name from the football schools.

The invites are supposed to be announced in 7-10 days.

Xavier and Butler are reported to be done deals.

There's conflicting info regarding the tenth team. ESPN is reporting that it will be Creighton, but the NY Post is reporting that it will be Dayton.

Saint Louis and Creighton/Dayton would join a year later.

Crossing my fingers, but it looks like fBE may be having second thoughts about America 12.
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!

You mean using the "America 12" name? What do you prefer?

Almost anything. Preferably something Metro related. Metro, Metro 12, Eastern Metro. Heck, at this point I would take Big American, which I hated until America 12 came along.
