    Big Ten expansion?

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...e-in-expansion

As of last month the hottest buzz in the industry had the Big Ten targeting Georgia Tech and Virginia.

This is why we are waiting on Maryland-ACC lawsuit.

The Big Ten Network wants 16 schools so that they have more programming content, and they want 2 schools from new markets so that they can get BTN on cable in those households.

I don't think so. NC State and Virginia Tech are rumored to be 15 and 16. Like Delaney, Slive is waiting on that Maryland-ACC lawsuit.

Apparently they have also been going after UNC and Dook for 3 years.

Maybe that was before they decided to start their own network.

Adding two teams from the same market defeats the half of the purpose of expanding to 16 members.

The Big Ten is looking at 9 or 10-game conference schedules going forward. The Pac-12 and Big 12 are already playing 9-game conference schedules. With the power conferences playing more conference games, it will certainly affect guarantee game opportunities for teams in non-AQ conferences.

......it's also going to make it tougher for these AQ teams to earn 6 wins to go bowling.

Astute Mr. Hogdawg...therefore, the number of wins needed to go bowling will drop to 5.

I see Georgia Tech in the Big 10 (or whatever the number is these days). Lots of talk about it in Atlanta/West Georgia, gives them a place to go head to head with the SEC in a major market (if GT gets competitive again. There D tackled worse than ours). My money, notice I didn't say smart money, says this happens sooner rather than later.

And the bowl system would be taken off of its current life-support status if that happens.

This is actually really good for the non-AQ FBS schools. It'll drive up demand for money games, meaning MAC schools will start making more for those games (that they were going to play anyway). It's drops in the ocean, but anything that will cost the Big10 more money and make non-AQs more money is a positive for the little guys in FBS.

They've tightened up on cross-subdivisional games before. If they try it a few years and don't like it, they'll just quietly bring them back.

    It's a wash.

They're gonna play a 9 game conference sked, and eliminate the FCS games. But they will still play 2-3 non-AQs each year same as now.

    Re: Big Ten expansion?

I agree that it's probably a wash. I think they are only doing this because of fan backlash. Wasn't it Michigan that had a bunch of fans boycott a game this year when they played an FCS opponent? Maybe it was Ohio State. Anyway, that happened a few times this season and I'm sure they took notice. Probably not a huge impact either way, but inudesu is right that they will be forced to play FBS Non-AQ, rather than FCS, so that might result in a few more dollars.
