Until I saw the list, I never knew Coach Aillet filled in as basketball coach toward the end of World War II.

In his first two years, White went 45-23. So Konkol has 1 more win and 3 fewer losses than White through two seasons. However, White had a WAC title and an NIT bid (2nd round) in that span, while Konkol has no titles and only the Vegas 16 bid (1st round). And when you compare the team White inherited to the team Konkol inherited... it's night and day.
Not ready to completely lose faith in Konkol, though. I think the future looks bright.
We talk about trying to hire coaches that will take us to the next level and improve on the work of their predecessor. Right now I feel like Konkol is in a holding pattern with a slight step back. He's not really worse than White but he's not elevated the program...yet. I agree he should have a bit more time, and we have a lot of great young talent.
Of course, we've had the conference PoY for three straight years and it hasn't helped. I am convinced there is a deep psychological curse on Bulldog teams.
That's not really a fair comparison IMO. Remember White was hired in March to replace a coach we fired. Konkol wasn't hired until May (two months later in year than we hired White) after the NBA carousel. White had enough time to bring in guys like Speedy, Heem, Kyser, and Gaskins his first season. Konkol really didn't have any time to recruit before his first season. Konkol found Washington at the last minute, but his first real recruiting class was this year with DayDay, Harris, Sherman, etc.
Good point.
Slouching toward Richard...

konkol rode in on MW's coat tails and after 3 years was Overall 63/99, winning % = .636 Conference 33/54, winning % = .611
