Lou Holtz, Skip Holtz, and Larry Bechtel

Isn't it kind of ironic that Tech made that horrible mistake of hiring Larry Bechtel from Lou Holtz's staff at Arkansas and then fired Larry before the season was over which got Lou mad at us so that he backed out of speaking at our end of year football banquet. (That was one long sentence.) And now, we have his son Skip as the football coach. I guess Lou will be OK with us now.

By the way, if there ever was a worse hire than Larry I don't know what it could be. He tried to take a historic great passing team and make us a running option team.

At least we got rid of him quickly. In case you have been able to put that miserable season out of your memory (or for those too young to remember...), here is a recap of that season:

New Mexico 34 Louisiana Tech 0
    Tennessee-Chattanooga 24 Louisiana Tech 7
    Lamar 19 Louisiana Tech 7
Miami (FL) 6 Louisiana Tech 0
    Louisiana Tech 17 USL 0
Arkansas State 14 Louisiana Tech 7
Northwestern State 25 Louisiana Tech 21
    Texas-Arlington 30 Louisiana Tech 16
North Texas 19 Louisiana Tech 17
McNeese State 41 Louisiana Tech 7
    Louisiana Tech 13 NLU 10

The only good thing about the season, we beat who we needed to. LB was fired after the McNeese game. Patterson coached the NLU game.

what makes it even worse, we were coming off an Independance bowl victory yr before and we had a proven QB ( thibadeaux?)-- we were expecting a great yr-- players dropped like flies from team.

Re: Lou Holtz, Skip Holtz, and Larry Bechtel

Here's some more irony for you:

Our new Special Teams Coordinator/DB Coach is Ronnie Bradford who played at the University of Colorado in 1990, when they won the national championship. The 1991 Orange Bowl is the game that clinched the title for them. In that game, Bradford blocked an extra point that helped Colorado beat Notre Dame 10-9. The Wide Receivers coach on that Notre Dame team..... Skip Holtz.
