ESPN and Fox view NBCSN as a threat because NBC is owned by the nation's largest distributor, Comcast. That's why ESPN and Fox are doing their best to block NBCSN from getting any significant programming.
You have to include all of NBC when speaking of "family of networks."

$100-million salaries for expansion of athletic staff (along with the accountability to make sure they are doing their jobs).

No, the NBC family of networks was never mentioned because the NBC family of networks was not offered to the Big East. The proposal was for the Big East to become the anchor of NBCSN. I referred to the ESPN family of networks because ESPN's deal with the Big East includes programming on the ESPN family of networks: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3.

Per @McMurphyESPN the Big East TV deal includes a conference title game starting in 2014. no surprise, but this means that the Big East MUST expand by then.

Re: Big East gets a lowball offer from NBCSports

The negotiations with NBC did include select games on NBC proper. A very limited number, but it was there. The question is whether or not NBC can put any of the properties it does have on NBCSN... which, I'm not sure they can because NBA and MLB would be the thing they'd do that with (certainly not NFL). And with that, I think the NBCSN is screwed for lack of content unless they can get on the MWC bus or Dawg06 is wrong about their being blacklisted.

The 2014 thing is interesting, because Navy isn't due until 2015. Does this mean they're coming early? That the BE is going to go above 12? That the NCAA will make provisions for less than 12 (if #12 is imminent, a concession they didn't make for the ACC, so I don't know why they'd make it for the BE)?
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!

The proposal did not include select games for NBC proper. All it said is that they would have to "ability to move some games to NBC's broadcast network" if NBC decided they wanted to broadcast any of them on their main channel. There were no guarantees that any games would be moved to NBC. The deal was for NBCSN.

NBC would not be able to move any our their currently contracted games from NBC to NBCSN. No way their clients would allow it.

The Big 12 is pushing hard for allowing 10-team conferences to play a football championship game. The Big East could team up with the Big 12 to try to get a waiver for 2014. It wouldn't surprise me if they got the waiver or if they changed the rule.

I would be very surprised to see the "12-team conference requirement" for a conference football championship game be waived. Simply put, there have been too many sacrifices made by other conferences (SEC, Big Ten, PAC 12, ACC, etc....) in an effort to accommodate this requirement. I can't see these conferences allowing the Big XII or the new Big East to circumvent the process. On the contrary, I would expect the Big Conferences --who have already invested in 12 teams-- to dig their heels in and force the Big XII and new BE to do the same.

I did not realize that USNA was not coming on board until 2015. But McMurphy clearly said 2014.

This may be the gift Tech needs. It may open THREE spots in the BE, not just 1.

Realistic candidates are probably all teams with more than 1 year in 1A. And all in CUSA. Since they will have 7 eastern teams, the 3 new teams will most likely be in the west.

That leaves Rice, UNT, UTEP, So Miss, Tulsa, & Tech. Eliminate Rice snd UNT for duplicate metro areas. Add Tulsa & So Miss. Frankly UTEP is better than Tulsa, but the big east shows no interest. So that could make Tech #14 by default.

COME ON ADMIN. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

Logic went out the window when they went after Tulane. Tulsa is the next best after Tulane. Rice is ahead of us. I think we'd be ahead of USM if it weren't for Tulane. Tulane in, means we are out.

We got BVDV...the laughing stock of college athletics.
