Independence Bowl sets sights on stability

From the front page of today's Shreveport Times:

    (in part)

“We’ve been through a lot the past few years,” I-Bowl executive director Missy Setters told The Times on Wednesday. “The future of the game is trending back up to a point where we have conference partners and selections high enough that it gets the fans here excited about it.”
“Shreveport gets a bad rap about not supporting things,” said Jack Andres, the chairman of the 2012 game. “But we’ve had incredible support through thick and thin.”

It's because they don't support things.

Okay . . . somebody suggest a C-USA tie-in, just to see what kind of response miss missy gives.

    Big name, big gate
The last time the Independence Bowl drew more than 42,000 was in 2009, the last time an SEC team was featured in the game. Attendance has directly reflected the matchups.
2012, ULM (Sun Belt) vs. Ohio (MAC) 41,853
2011, Missouri (Big 12) vs. North Carolina (ACC) 41,728
2010, Air Force (Mountain West) vs. Georgia Tech (ACC) 39,362
    2009, Georgia (SEC) vs. Texas A&M 49,653
2008, Louisiana Tech (WAC) vs. Northern Illinois (MAC) 41,567
2007, Alabama (SEC) vs. Colorado (Big 12) 47,043

I want them to stop using the 41,853 numbers from last year. They know they did not fill that stadium at 80% capacity.

Re: Independence Bowl sets sights on stability

When the SEC couldn’t fill its allotment and the ACC lot was left dry when Miami removed itself from bowl consideration, the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl was left with ULM and Ohio University.

“People were disappointed last year,” Setters said. “And we were too because we couldn’t get an SEC or ACC team. Although we had two teams that loved to be here, and we enjoyed that, there is a natural progression and you want to put yourself in a position to get the best picks you can.”
Well, at least Missy Setters now admits that the Indy Bowl committee screwed the pooch last year by inviting ULM & Ohio. Fact is, nobody cared about that silly match-up, and it cost the Indy Bowl dearly in ticket sales and lack of prestige. After the ULM-Ohio fiasco --and with local favorite LA Tech uninvited, and sitting at home with a 9 win team-- I'm sure Setters and Company have heard an earful from the locals. I'm sure she is having trouble "selling" the 2013 Indy Bowl to the local sponsors and supporters.

Official Shreveport Parks and Recreation turnstile count of the 2012 ULM-Ohio Indy Bowl was 19,203.

And here is the juco's side:

That picture is very misleading. During what point of the game was that taken?

Because here is another shot of their side that is almost completely full:

    Start of halftime.

That pic you posted is misleading because of the angle. Those seats in the center never filled.

Maybe so, but if it were as empty as the one you posted, it wouldn't look like that.

    ULM brought about 15,000.
    Ohio brought about 2,000.
About 2,000 locals with free tickets from corporate sponsors showed up.
    That's the 19,203.

    Early 2nd quarter

Looks like somebody couldn't afford to sit in the good seats.
