I am guessing that UConn, Cincy, and USF can leave the conference and still receive the payout over the 5-7 years - once the settlement is on paper.....

So the current NCAA rules were just ignored for this whole process.

    - New conference formed which I assume will get an auto bid even though they don't need one.

    - Transfer of NCAA units to a new conference and its members while the old conference continues to exist.

Based on this precedent, should Tech earn units this year, they should lobby the NCAA to keep them for themselves.

Doubt it. That's why they are spreading it out over several years instead of giving them a lump sum. Surely they'll be subject to the same exit penalties as all the others. The exact terms of the distribution haven't been determined yet.

I don't think they'll get an auto bid, but it won't matter for MBB because they don't need one. They shouldn't get an auto bid for any of their other sports either. We'll see what happens.

If both conferences make an agreement, it's probably not hard to get around the distribution rules. I'm thinking that the NCAA MBB distribution may still go to the football schools as required by the NCAA, and then the football schools will forward that money to the basketball schools. Don't know, but that's an easy way to get around the NCAA rules if the NCAA won't give the distribution directly to the basketball schools.

ESPN reduces the football schools' 7-year TV deal from $130 million to $126 million because the Catholic schools left early.

Not that big of a difference. I would have thought it would have been more of a cut, but the Catholic schools didn't offer a lot in football, anyway. The bball deal is where it will really show up in a few years - especially after UConn leaves.

It's really means the Big East will only get $19 million in total TV revenue next season instead of $23 million. Remember the Big East still has the $13 million football TV deal for next season. After next season, they will receive $20 million for the next 6 seasons.

Looks like the remaining schools in the Metro/Big East conference have agreed to a contract with CBS to air basketball games. No dollar amounts given in this article.
