Texas State up by 9 on Denver with 6 minues left to go in the game. The number 2 seed is having a tough go at it!
Ballgame! Denver made it exciting, but TxST's free throws get them the W in the end. 72-68. Now if the Bobcats can knock off NMSt tomorrow.
Huge upset. Looks like it's New Mexico State's side of the bracket to lose now.
Wow, how often do you see a team shoot 65.7% from the field for an ENTIRE game!!!! Denver did great to only lose by 4.

The only reason that Denver was in the game at the end was because Olson was hitting 3's every other possession. He must have hit 3 in the last 2 minutes of the game.
Let's get behind the Lady Techsters and continue to show our Bulldog pride!!!!
Damn!!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping for a men and women chamipionship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Denver loses, Tech loses....Wow! it's March Madness!!!!!!!!!
Anything can happen....and it usually does.
The afternoon session was a lot of fun. Joel Wright from Texas State led his team to the upset in Denver.
Tyrone Watson of NMSU did not play in their win over Idaho. Heard from an NMSU fan that he has ankle or knee injury which could keep him out of action for remainer of tournament. Sim Bhullar (7'5") center from NMSU was hampered by ankle injury and he was unable to move well. At best, he was not very mobile but he was limited even more by the ankle injury.
The upset of Denver and the news about injuries to NMSU set up a good run for the DAWGS through the tournament to a possible championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Sometimes it doesn't happen the way you expect.
And UTA knocks out USU.
Final 4 are #8Texas State, #9UTSA, #4UTA, and #3NMSU.
In case anyone is still interested - New Mexico State beat Texas State and UTA handled UTSA easily. NMSU and UTA meet in tonight's finals at 10 p.m. CT.
Game notes and views from the tournament:Be sure to make your plans to attend the Conference USA tournament next year.
- NMSU played again without Tyrone Watson.
- Sim Bhullar's little brother was at the game. He's a junior in High School. He's only 7'3". Still growing?
- Sim is very gracious to let amazed and astonished fans get pictures of themselves with him.
- UTSA must have been demon possessed on Thursday night. They didn't play anywhere near as well against UTA. UTA played much of the game without their large center due to his foul trouble. The UTSA players who beat us were shut down by UTA defense.
- Several schools brought many more band members than did TECH. Idaho and USU each probably had around 50 band members, cheerleaders, and dancers.
- Overall attendance is way down this year.
- NMSU and USU crowds were clearly the largest but both of those were 2/3rd's of last year.
- TECH with about 30 to 40 fans may have attracted the 3rd largest crowd. I noticed several new people (less than 10) in the TECH crowd who came for men's basketball.
- The number of fans watching the Lady Techsters was the lowest I've seen since the men and women began playing at the same venue.
- TSU, UTSA, Seattle, UTA, Idaho, Denver crowds were very small. SJSU was eliminated before I arrived but in past years they brought the fewest number of fans.
- This year's award for the fewest number of fans would go to UTSA. My guess is that they had less than 10.
- TSU's small student group (8 to 10) was well organized and put on a good show. In our game at San Marcos, they had 3 students in the student section during their semester break and I watched them perform the same routines. Those 3 students were joined by a few others and all did choreographed hand movements and dance moves as their band played. They win my award for having the best student section at the tournament.
- Best band is still the Hoop Troop but several other bands are taking lessons and are closing the gap. Idaho, NMSU, UTSA, USU, and TSU band are close behind.
- Seattle did not bring a band. They brought 5 cheerleaders and 6 or 7 dancers who danced recorded music.
- I wonder if the Hoop Troop will play for Seattle in the women's finals. They've played for someone before and last year Fresno State played for us as the Hoop Troop wasn't there.
- The Hoop Troop started chanting "Basketball Barbies" at the Seattle women's team. It was a very appropriate chant for the 5 players on the floor at the time. They have some beautiful young women playing basketball.
- I miss seeing the TECH teams at the Orleans. They are staying at the Palms Resort about a mile from the Orleans. The Orleans has limited meeting rooms. Tents are setup outside the arena as meeting spaces.
- Some alumni groups are meeting in the concourse areas of the Orleans Arena prior to the games. At least one of the meetings was arranged by that schools Alumni Association.
- The Bulldogs are practicing today for next week's NIT game. The opponent and game location will not be known until Sunday night. The game will be played either Tuesday or Wednesday night.
Don't forget today's 4 p.m. bowling tournament at the Orleans. There will be winner from TECH this year. Tech78 and his wife has been practicing and I've got a slight knee injury so I may not be able to defend my crown. All TECH students, fans, administrators and officials, coaches, players, and family are invited.
TECH wins championship at WAC tournament. Tech78 outscored HoDo in the second game to win the very unofficial WAC tournament bowling championship for TECH. After the first game of the two game tournament, Tech78 and HoDo were tied for the lead in the 8 person field. Tech78 got hot in the second game and pull out to a big lead. In the 10th frame, HoDo still had an opportunity to repeat as champion but fell one strike short. Congratulations to Tech78 in the winner-take-all tournament.
The next tournament will be at the C-USA basketball tournament in March, 2014. Tech78 faces a ban from participation in the 2014 tournament. A review of the non-existent rules will be done by the tournament committee to determine if Tech78's multiple pre-tournament practice games violated the spirit of the 2013 competition. Anything goes in 2014.
In other news, NMSU gets by UTA to win WAC men's basketball tournament and automatic bid to NCAA tournament.
